Re: 6/17/2018 Folks taking the Queen

UPDATE: We have confirmed with the local sheriff that there are no posted detours for the closing of US41 at Houghton. But there is a good route to Copper Harbor. At Baraga, take M38 west to M26 and 26 north to Houghton. Or watch for posted detours as conditions change today.

Re: Splitting Freeze Dried food(Mountain House)

I have bought 2 person meals, opened them at home, mixed the contents well, placed them in a vacumn bag and sealed them. No problems. I have also done as Mr. Ingo has. Split them in the field, using the existing package (after removing the little packet) and put the rest in a Feezer Ziplock for the ...

5/11/53 SS Henry Steinbrenner

Norm Bragg was a lucky man on this date in 1953. 3 hatches on the Steinbrenner were blown off by a storm near Isle Royale and Lake Superior was filling into the hull. He abandoned ship in 20 foot waves and was picked up by a passing freighter. Bragg continued sailing until 1966 when he was lost on t...

First Boat weather 2018

For a lot of the folks who have taken the first boat, this should come as no surprise. Temps in the UP got down into the teens last night. For those who are first time visitors on the first boat, bring warm gear.

Tobin Harbor still had ice on it the other day (5/9/18). RIII is heading to Windigo, will be interesting to see how it is going in.
