Re: not quite IR and not quite moose, but still . . .

It's interesting the article makes no mention regarding the expected fate of the wolves, now remaining on Michipicoten Island, now that their primary food source has been removed.

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning

Unless your heart is deeply set on doing an end to end of the Island, I suggest following a variation of the previous advice. On the north-east end of the Island the campgrounds are closer together, there are more of them on Lake Superior,(and almost all on the Big Lake have shelters) the inland lak...

Re: Trip Report July 12-18, 2017

Thanks for the nice trip report. It's a bit unusual for weather delays on the ferries in July but a 2 hour delay's not bad. Were you able to get off the boat at Amygdaloid Island? Even though there is no ranger stationed there anymore, does anyone still live there? I think maintenance had a cabin th...

Re: June Trip

On my last trip I was hoping for some opportunities for night photography. I was somewhat dismayed by the light pollution to the north caused by Thunder Bay. It was enhanced by reflection from high cloud cover even though the south sky was clear. Maybe if the entire sky had been clear things would h...

Very thoughtful and useful ideas. I encourage readers to make sure they explore the 4 links at the end for the full text and pictures.

Re: Shelters

You only find shelters (and picnic tables) at sites on Superior that have docks. Lake Superior sites like Hugginin, Little Todd, and Lane Cove all lack shelters, as well. I'm nearly certain it all comes down to logistics; it's just difficult to get materials inland and so it's limited to some locat...

Re: Are bikes coming to Isle Royale?

Interesting at the least. The motives of the bill's supporters are unclear although I've long wondered why the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) has not been used more for such access. Here is the official government page for the bill , where it's progress can be tracked. I think a portage dolly...

Re: Planning a 8 day adventure... looking for some advice

Welcome to the forum Td[lifehike]442. If one suspects their goals are lofty, then chances are they just might be. But it all depends upon your experience and "hiking personality". Often, people that try to see as much as possible end up spending their time and effort "getting there" and they miss th...

Re: Map

Another "oddity" that I just noticed is Lake Desor is listed as having Brook Trout, Cisco and Whitefish. This is in direct conflict with the official stance that it is void of fish although there have been anecdotal reports of some fishing successes.

Re: Map

It shows some interesting history. For example, Lane Cove campground is in the "old" position and the older Windigo to Feldtmann Lake trail that goes through the swamp is shown.

Re: Map

I think the map you refer to is called "Points of Interest - Isle Royale National Park. I have not seen it for sale today. Here is a scanned copy of the one I have from 1977
