Re: Trail Conditions 2011
Just got back June 19th. Greenstone was o.k. at first from Windigo. You could tell where they stopped as the amount of deadfalls increased. The worst that we encountered was on Indian Portage from Chickenbone to Chippewa. There were alot of deadfalls there. The bugs were attrocious. The mayfly's hat...

I wonder if our dogs feel the same way? Then they laugh at themseleves because we have to pick it up!Kevinl wrote:I'm sorry, but as long as we're on the topic, what weirds me out about those open SHT toilets is how my dog is able to watch me. It's downright creepy.

Re: packs on ferries
Same here except we're on the Voyageur. The G.P.I.R. (Grand Portage Isle Royale) Transportation Line website has this information about stove fuel on their vessels: “Camp and stove fuel,(butane, propane, white gas) can be contained in your packs if you are riding on the Voyageur II, except for carr...

Re: packs on ferries
So it's IS o.k. to have the fuel already in your pack? I have the same question. We're taking the Ranger III and the information we got said something about twist-on containers. We have the MSR containers with the twist top. Can we go with pre-filled containers, or do we need to buy fuel there? Sam...

Re: Sleeping Bag - Mid-June
We tend to camp either in Minnesota in the winter, or Kentucky in the summer. So it's either brutally hot or brutally cold. I haven't camped when it was only 30-50 at night for a while, and my husband never has. I can't remember what to expect :? The 10 degree bag would definately keep you warm eno...

Hmmm decisions decisons We're staying at S Desor Hatchet, Chickenbone and Chippewa Harbor. The way the pack is weighing now I might have to just hope for a good log somewhere.jrwiesz wrote:I'd say leave the stool at home; save the weight for more Crown Royale.

Campsite Questions
We leave Next week! Quick question for the board. Someone already told me that the campsites have outhouses. Do most or all have benches or at least logs to sit on? The reason I ask is that I have a very lightweight folding telescope stool that I am thinking of bringing, but I'm also trying to keep ...

Re: Sleeping Bag - Mid-June
We'll be there next week. I'm going with a 30 degree bag. I always bring a pair of long johns I've slept in cold temps with that setup and been just fine. A stocking cap is always a good idea too.

Re: Fire rings and fire wood.
If you like to camp with a little bit of fire at your campsite you could consider a wood burning stove. These are not your typical hobo tin can deals but twig burners that either have battery fans or other methods to create a vortex of air that creates a very small, very hot fire. I remember someon...

Re: Powerbait.
Thanks for the link Ed. The regs I was looking at didn't say scented. So I would definately say power bait is a no go. Guess I'll have to rely on my superior fishing prowess. Meaning. Bring an extra Mountain House.

Powerbait.
I read the regs and it talked about "organic" bait. Anyone ever used it and or know if it's legal? I am planning on spinners, Rapala's etc.

Re: Grand Portage Casino
Cool! Thanks, it looks like we'll have to eat at Rydens for Breakfast as it's an early wake up. Thanks for the info. I'll post a trip report when I get back. 2 weeks and counting! Can't wait.
