Re: experience with esbit stoves?

I realize that I am late to respond to this thread. I would suggest you look at the Emberlit FireAnt stove. It is an awesome stove. If I am backpacking with my wife, we take it as a backup. If I am going solo, it is all I take. It can be used with several fuel sources . First it was designed for use...

Re: Freeze Dried portion sizes

To me, most portions are too small. Not enough calories. I usually eat 4 times a day to make up the difference.

Re: Tent question

If I was going by myself, I would use a hammock with a bug net and a tarp. When I go with my wife, we use a mutha hubba. That is opposite directions from one another, but it works for us. If you are backpacking by yourself, a three man tent takes up a lot of pack space. It also weighs a lot more tha...

When they were at Feldtman Lake there was a high school biology (fairly) local teacher who was supposedly sent to gather some research on the p...

Re: Visitor perception of "private" areas on Isle Royale?

I don't understand where this issue of ownership or control of docks that are considered public came from. The original post was indeed about a private dock/private property invaded by disrespectful people, regardless of them being sailors/boaters/kayakers etc. I think we all agree on that. Most bo...

Re: Visitor perception of "private" areas on Isle Royale?

I agree with Tree Ratt. I am a boater, but never on Isle Royale. I don't really view a dock as public or private. I see it more as a common area. If you were camped close to an outhouse, it's not your outhouse is it? If someone needs it in the middle of the night can they use it? If I wanted privacy...

Re: Visitor perception of "private" areas on Isle Royale?

To me a priviate area is off limits. Some people with sailboats think they own the water. I have had a sailboat try and have me move my boat off a dock. They think because they have the right of way on the water, you have to get out of their way all the time. They forget they have to be under sail. ...

I bring enough food just in case the fishing is bad. If I bring food home, so be it. I would rather not go hungry.

IR no longer the least visited NP

That is because many people use the park as a short cut. It is too big to drive around.
