Re: not quite IR and not quite moose, but still . . .

I've read that the caribou taken to Slate are actually from the ancestors of the caribou taken to Michipicoten from Slate to save them when wolves showed up there.

Re: I'm Coming Back!!

I think you should skip all that hiking business and come and volunteer on working on the Rock of Ages lighthouse over the summer. :D We'll take you any way we can get you. Hike on! If I was young with no responsibilities or older with no responsibilities, that would be a great way to spend a summe...

Re: I'm Coming Back!!

My first trip was in May and we really enjoyed it. My last trip was way back in fall of 2014, so I need the fix. Thanks!

I'm Coming Back!!

After a 4 year hiatus where I swooned over the boundary waters, I'm going to hike the Island again!!! All right, with that out of the way... I've started planning for a mid/late May trip. We're thinking that we'll go out of Copper Harbor. But the question is, generally, should we enjoy ourselves or ...

Re: Need Advice; Planning a 5 night traverse

Day 1 to Moskey will be a long one. That's a lot of trail to cover over some very uneven ground with your packs at their heaviest.

Re: Hammocks

I hung on some of the Feldtmann loop in the fall of 14 at Feldtmann Lake and Siskiwit Bay before heading east to spend the 3rd night at S Desor. Very enjoyable hike with a side trip to Rainbow cove for the sunset on the first night.

Re: First Trip: Hammocks, Huginning Loop, August 2018

You need to make sure to avoid birch/small birch trees for your hammock as they can pull up. However I used a birch > 1ft diameter at several sites, I just convinced myself that they were strong enough before hanging there. Make sure they're alive and big enough. You'll be fine. https://i.imgur.com...

Re: Good Article on The America

I discovered Howard Sivertson and his works last week at the monument in Grand Portage. I ordered a couple of his books yesterday. I'm really looking forward to reading them.
