Re: 2009 Trips
hirkeukvic, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the Feldtman Loop or in the time of year. Mid to late May can still get pretty cool at night but I've never had anything too cold that I couldn't handle, and I'm by no means a cold weather hiker.

Re: First-timer planning for next summer
Hirkeukvic, first of all, welcome to the forum! Everyone here is nice and we enjoy sharing our experiences and knowledge of Isle Royale. Check out all the categories, I'm sure you'll find lots of helpful information to plan your trip. I'll start by saying that the Feldtman loop was probably my favor...

Re: Canoe Rock Harbor to Moskey
I have always wanted to explore Isle Royale via canoe/kayak but have not done it yet. I would love to know how your trip goes.

Re: Anyone hear about this?
These articles once again remind us that, while rare, wolves have been known to attack humans. After all, they are wild, predatory animals and becoming complacent when we're in their territory could lead to problems, especially if they begin to lose their fear of humans. This all goes to reinforce s...

Re: Fortunate Wilderness: The Documentary
Just FYI. I sent an email about a bad link on the Fortunate Wilderness website and also inquired about the missing movie trailer. This was my email and George's response: ------- George, I just wanted to let you know that the link "The Wolves and Moose of Isle Royale Website" on the "...

Re: Fortunate Wilderness: The Documentary
That's really odd. I just watched it too. As a matter of fact, I sent the link to my parents so they could watch it. I wonder if they saw it before it disappeared?

Re: Wolves vs Moose Showdown
Well, I guess I'll toss my uneducated (wolf theory) two cents into the debate. While we may not act like prey, wolves are a predatory, carnivorous animal. While there may not have been any serious human-wolf interactions to this point, I don't think we should wholeheartedly believe that it is not po...

Re: Rolf and John need your help!!
Wow, this would be amazing! I would love to do this but, it just will not work out for me. It would be an awesome learning experience and an honor to work alongside these people. And, you'd be able to say you were a small part of this 50+ year study at Isle Royale.

So, the wolves enjoy fresh apples too, huh? I never knew that. I guess you do learn something new everyday.

Sounds like you had a pretty good time on your kayak trip. I would like to paddle Isle Royale some day. I liked the photos as well. Pike fishing was one of my more memorable times on the island.

Re: Wolves vs Moose Showdown
Ya know, I can't exactly say that I disagree with that statement. I mean, look at how long backpackers have been visiting the island and most of those peopple never saw a wolf. I remember talking to a ranger about wolf sightings during my first trip to the island and I was told that there were peopl...

Re: Wolves vs Moose Showdown
It must have been very exciting to see those wolves and moose. You're right, it sounds like a trend that the wolves are becoming much less apprehensive of humans which is probably not a good sign. My buddy and I were last there in May 2007 and there were nowhere near the reports of wolf sightings an...

Re: Paddling Inner Lakes, Sep. 10-16
Thanks for the information. I've always wondered how people do a canoe/kayak trip. Do they use backpacks or store their gear in other containers? If they take a backpack, do they wear the pack and carry the boat in one trip or make separate trips for the pack(s)/gear and another trip for the boat(s)?
