Re: Opening Day Weather

When I went a few years ago, the waves were about 10' and I puked all the way over, but then so did a lot of others. Your right though, doubt anyone will be going on Monday, but can't wait to hear what the first group that does go encounters. The weather really sucks here in WI between ice, snow and...

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

I have one of those Sea to Summit shower bags and it works great. Used it 2016 with unheated water but kept me clean. Last year used towelettes every day but it was nice to take a shower at the end of the trip at Rock Harbor, despite the fact the shower was basically filthy. I saw the cleaning guy t...

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

Thanks for the quick reply. I am starting and finishing from Windigo this trip, so no shower and laundry for me this time.

Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

Arriving on the Isle on May 14 and staying for 8 days. Just wondering if the showers and laundry will be available that early when I get ready to leave. I assume no but thought I would ask. Hope the weather is a little warmer then the record cold April we have been having in WI.

Re: Feldtman loop mid May

Thanks for the Sisiwkit trail water conditions. I guess its longer gaiters for me and my home built Tyvek shoe covers which shed water from the top of my boots. If I hit deeper water then off comes the boots and wear my camp shoes.

Feldtman loop mid May

Planning on the Feldtmann loop clock wise mid May, then head to Huginnin then back to Windigo. Two years ago I went from Windigo to Feldtmann to Sisikwit then eventually Rock Harbor. This year I thought a shorter trip but put a off day in there. I realize the low hanging brush issues and dead fall, ...

Re: Bird ID, looks like a Blue Jay only bigger

Figured it out a Grey Jay. They are known to eat out of your hand and I have seen them land next to your food ready to eat it.

The trail was full of beaver dams and that was what was causing him issues.

TR 9/5-9/11 2017 Windigo to Rock Harbor

Flew into Windigo on Tuesday and got there around noon. It was sunny and warm, temps maybe into high 60's. Headed towards Island Mine but intended to try to make SL Desor. I hadn't carried the pack since May but bicycle every day for 2-3 hours. I got to Island Mine and felt fine, took my boots off a...

Re: Senior Pass

Thank you for the reply. I wanted to get a pass and when I ordered it, I couldn't believe how cheap it was for what it offered. It took a couple of months to get it and it is worth every penny.

Senior Pass

I just want to be sure that a senior pass will cover all my camping fees, entrance fees for a wk long trip coming up in a couple of weeks on the Island. From what I have read here and the park service it should, but if someone can let me know for sure I would appreciate it. It just seems odd that I ...

Re: Itinerary Feedback - Early August

Your trip sounds great but you should be aware that the plane getting to the island is very weather dependent. If its foggy then it will not fly. I have had flights cancelled and delayed, but that is part of the risk of flying. You should take this in account that you may not get there at the time y...
