Sorry! I had forgotten the taxi doesn't run that late in the year.

Re: our first backpacking adventure

Hi, My wife and I are planning our fist visit/backpacking adventure on Isle Royale the first week in Aug. I'm still figuring out logistics such as which ferry and days (leaning tue-sat) to Rock Harbor. As it will be our first visit to the Island I'm curious as to what people recommend as must see f...

Hi!
I typically take MH or Packit gourmet for meals. Pro bars for breakfast, trail mix, jerky and snikers bars to round it out.

Have a great trip, you will be back (:

Re: First Timer to Isle Royale!

Hi... I'm hoping for a little feedback on my itinerary. I'm going first week of June (I know it'll be cold at night). I'm an experienced hiker/camper. This will be my first bigbacking trek. I'm not looking to do heavy miles on my first trip, so I was thinking I'd take the voyager from Rock Harbor t...

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning

Fishing probably won't be very good at Todd Harbor. Todd is a beautiful place to spend some time though. Probably best place to fish at Todd is to hike to the waterfall and try where the waterfall dumps into the lake. I was told by a ranger that was the best bet at Todd. Maybe some others have some ...

Re: Boating Question (Bass Boating to the Island)

Quick update from my trip in August of 2017. I made the journey from Grand Portage, MN to Windigo and then circumnavigated the island over 10 days by myself in my 2007 Bass Boat. What an amazing journey and story to tell. I'm working on updating my log to make it readable as I was making quick note...

Re: First Time, Feldtmann Loop, Early August

Looking for opinions on my group's itinerary. We're thinking to do the Feldtmann Loop the first week of August. We've been backpacking before, but this will be our first time on ISRO. We're a group of 4 middle-aged hikers. I've been using the trip planner worksheet and Jim Dufresne's guidebook. My ...

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning

I've been reading the forum for a while and am now close enough to a plan to post. Thank you all for the posts you have already made that have helped me, and for any future advice. Myself and two others are planning a trip in June and I'm looking for any input from people who have been to the islan...

Re: First Trip: Hammocks, Huginning Loop, August 2018

Was there last August! I thought it was an easy hike. I'm 47 and on the chunky side so you should find it a great hike. I like the sight off to the east, but you had to look for the trail to get there, it was not obvious. If the water is calm you should be able to walk the beach to it. Sent from my ...

Re: Water sources/Stream in Minong trail

The map is pretty close. I Just finished the Minong last week. If my memory serves me right. McCargo to Todd not much water access. Todd to Little Todd Maybe three streams crossed the trail. Little Todd to N Desor one stream and a beaver dam. N Desor to Windigo, multiple places to find water, three ...
