Seaplane Times & Capacity...
Daydreaming about getting to the island this year. I've haven't taken the seaplane before and had a couple questions that aren't readily answered by their website. Hope someone here might know. I did message them as well, but my daydreaming is impatient... What is the max number of people the seapla...

Re: Most photographic areas for Astro/Landscape/Wildlife Photography
Rainbow Cove, which is about 1 mile west of Feldtmann Lake campground, is beautiful.

Inland Water Conditions
Would any recent visitors please comment on the blue/green algae status of the inland lakes? Leaving soon and wondering if they've had any blooms. Thx.

Re: fish species in inland lakes
Thank you! I also just noticed it is a "sticky" post in this forum. Surprising it didn't come up in my searches.

Re: fish species in inland lakes
Does anyone have the list of fish species per inland lake? The NPS link above is broken and I could not find a replacement on their site. I searched the forums but could only find other posts with the broken link.

Re: Water Taxi Reservations?
Grandpa - I took your advice and called frequently (about every 5-10 min). I got finally got through after 8 tries. Thanks!
I don't have a reservation yet, but the lady took my info and said I would receive a call back.

Water Taxi Reservations?
Has anyone been able to make a water taxi reservation this year? I've called at least 10 times over several days and never gotten through. I've also used their online form to submit 2 requests, but haven't received any response. Can anyone who has been able to get through confirm the phone number fo...

Re: Itinerary Input...
Thanks everyone for your input. We've decided on "Itinerary 3" above. Everyone like the low mileage and nice sampling of trails & inland lakes. We've even made contingency plans for bad water at Chickenbone Lake and delayed/cancelled water taxi. Now we just have to be patient for August.

Re: Itinerary Input...
Ingo - Your post made me rethink using the water taxi. I made up a new itinerary starting with a water taxi to CH. It is a much easier hiking schedule than the previous itineraries, and it still allows for decent sections of the Rock Harbor Trail and Greenstone. Itinerary 3 RH -> CH (Water Taxi) CH ...

Re: Itinerary Input...
Thanks Tom. I'm definitely leaning towards itinerary 2 as well. Though I'll say that the reward of beer and burgers would definitely get me through a 15 mile day! I know McCargoe is a favorite of many here, but Chippewa is on my list of must-stay locations. Plus I know I'll hit McCargoe when I event...

Itinerary Input...
I'd appreciate the forum's thoughts on the following two itineraries. Our backpacking group consists of 3 "middle aged" men. We visited the island last year, hiking the Feldtmann Loop. This year we're looking to visit the east side of the island. We'd like to do a little fishing. We enjoy ...

Re: AT&T has Cell Phone coverage in Grand Portage
I have ATT and had signal while at Rainbow Cove. Also had signal for most of the boat ride over from Grand Portage. Ended up getting a Canadian tower while on feldtmann ridge fire tower.

Re: Trail Tracking
I use Backcountry Navigator on my Android phone. It allows you to download maps and saves your location at an interval. No cell signal required after you've downloaded your maps. I've also heard GaiaGPS is a good app, but don't have experience with that one yet.
