A couple non-itinerary points: Figure out your travel plans ASAP. I had trouble getting flights 2 months ago for my end of July trip. "Pick up permit" can take a loooong time depending on when you arrive in Rock Harbor. Don't plan on hitting the trail or scheduling a taxi close to your arr...

When I was there in August Moskey was overflowing, McCargo was "just" full, Malone was full (of boaters set up there long term...stacks of coolers behind the shelters, 20+ cases of beer laying around, camp chairs all around) and poor Daisy was double or tripled up at every site.

Day 2: I'd suggest getting to Hatchet via Todd Harbor. In my opinion it's a more interesting hike and there is a beaver dam to traverse. Yes, there was/is a reroute. It was clearly marked.
Given the dry conditions last summer it was easy; I could see it being a muddy mess under normal IR conditions.

How do you finish your trip early? Just take a '0' day and relax. The plane will take you back ahead of your schedule if they have room. I've flown back with people that had to leave due to emergency. Obviously you have to be done with your trip early enough to try to coordinate the plane trip throu...
