Re: Has anyone ever got a kayak or canoe into Sargent Lake?

I remember a story or two about folks taking pack rafts in. I can only imagine a kayak would be pretty tough. You may find some helpful info by searching old threads.

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning

I like it. Get an early start the 2nd day and see how you feel at Hatchet. At least it's an easy hike to Todd from there (personally I wouldn't have any legs left :?, but if you're young and active... ).

Re: First time to IR, looking for trip tips out of rock Harbour

... what are the pros and cons between the ranger and the queen?? Queen IV: quickest trip, pretty comfortable, snacks, you can go out on the bow, registration is at Rock Harbor. Ranger III: longest trip, most comfortable, big boat, sandwiches (meh) and chili, Ranger talks along the way, registratio...

Re: First time to IR, looking for trip tips out of rock Harbour

If you can swing the water taxi, you have more options with less mileage. Here's a couple ideas off the top of my head: This hits the trifecta of favorite campgrounds (Moskey, Chippewa, McCargoe): - McCargoe Cove, water taxi - Lake Richie, 6.3 mi - Chippewa Harbor, 4.3 mi - Moskey Basin, 6.2 mi - Th...

Thanks for the info all, we found out that the Isle Royale sea plane will pre-position fuel for us at Windigo :D , we feel a lot better now.
Good to know. That's either new, or a has been a well kept secret ;).

Re: 1st Trip to Isle Royale

- That route was very wet that time last year, lots of mud and water on the trails. Gaitors highly recommend, and dry shoes for camp. - Probably would make reservations sooner than later. While overall it's slower, there are some larger groups that go early and can fill up the boat quickly. I'd make...

Re: First Time, Feldtmann Loop, Early August

Just a couple thoughts/confirmations. - Lots of moose at Feldtmann. Walking along the lake in front of campsites, through campsites, in my campsite. - Do hike out to Rainbow Cove unless the weather just stinks. It's gorgeous, even without a sunset, and an easy walk. Don't forget headlamps. - The fir...

Re: Boating Question (Bass Boating to the Island)

Quick update from my trip in August of 2017. I made the journey from Grand Portage, MN to Windigo and then circumnavigated the island over 10 days by myself in my 2007 Bass Boat. What an amazing journey and story to tell. I'm working on updating my log to make it readable as I was making quick note...

Re: Water Taxi Transit Times?

It depends on the waves and weather (like everything). In good weather, less than 30 mins I'd say. I'm guessing those boats can cruise at 30 and it's 12 miles. But say if there are 3 foot waves, that will slow it down significantly--which is probably why they don't publish times.

It's been suggested that those wolves be moved to Isle Royale, but it appears that wasn't going to happen soon enough for the Caribou.

Re: Late May trip to the island

Last year I went over to Windigo on Memorial Day and they were working on opening things up. Odds are good someone will be there and sell you some fuel even if they aren't officially open yet--stocked could be an issue, but I'm pretty sure they store it over the winter there having bought a rusty ca...

Re: June 16th-23rd hike trip route planning

Can anyone answer what we can expect for wet trails on the routes suggested that time of year? We thought that some of the outed trails might be pretty wet in June which was another consideration for keeping to the middle. Obviously it all depends on the weather, both while and before your trip. Bu...

Re: Advice from Isle Royale magnets, t-shirts, and sweatshirts

Hi Ingo, The snowflake t-shirts were kind of slow sellers. I checked with Kristine and her reply was: "Not now. We do get occasional requests for them and may bring them back eventually." Bob Thanks Bob, that's kinda what I figured. I guess my tastes are atypical :? . I'll keep my eye out, and won'...
