Trouble in Nature's Labratory
The Minneapolis StarTribune (www.startribune.com) has a front page article in today's Sunday edition regarding the Moose/Wolf study and the concerns with the population. I haven't found the article yet online (that paper has been trying to keep a few things "in the paper" for a couple days...

Re: 9/4 - 9/11: 8 Incredible Days
Great photos, BlackCoffee! Rare indeed it is to see a wolf, let alone a group. A special moment indeed. DonNewcomb: OMG! You saw wolf and moose! The biggest mammal we saw was a squirrel. Don't feel bad, Don! While any ol' hiker can go to a National Park and perhaps see a moose or a wolf, only the IR...

Re: Aug 25th - Sept 5th
Great TR, Don. Very descriptive. Cool that you met Dufresne. Next to Rolf, he's probably the next 'best known authority' on IR. Funny you mention of 'two types of rangers' - Since there are. There are the law enforcement rangers (they get the guns, and post 9/11, the really nice boats), and the inte...

Re: Pix 25 Aug - 5 Sept
Thanks for sharing, DonNewcomb! Those wolf tracks don't look that old - One had to be through not too much earlier. The tree growths (at least in the one photo) look like classic "witch's broom" - Which is essentially a funky outgrowth of the tree that can be caused by a variety of factors...

Re: Shelter locations - table?
I'm with Don (and the Park Service) - The tables are supposed to stay outside.** **Ok, that being said, I've certainly enjoyed the merits of having a table inside the shelter during that buggy or rainy weather. I do understand their convenience. However, if you can heft them into the shelter, you ca...

Re: who out there?
I don't carry a backup stove, but carry the maintenance kit for my MSR Internationale. It's small and designed to be carried afield. It pretty much could repair just about anything that could possibly break on the stove. It's also why I choose to carry a white gas stove rather than Isobutane - In a ...
