Re: TR: 9/6-9/16, 2021 [Rock to Windigo via a mix of trails]

We've had a bonanza of debut posts in the form of trip reports! Thanks for this one. I admire your good sense in concocting such an excellent itinerary for your first trip. Have you developed a scheme for your next one? And are you allowed to say more about how to find the apples at Daisy Farm?

Re: TR: 8/30-9/10, 2021 [Rock to Windigo via mixed route]

thanks for the detailed and highly readable report. I admire the format of your trip: you took real advantage of basecamps at Windigo and Rock Harbor, and also of the trails in between! Could you tell us more about how the Windigo mail drop worked? Extensive uninformed study of webpages left me with...

Re: How much should you assist other hikers on their plans?

Bear in mind that, at least some of the time, those with "ambitious" agendas understand what they're proposing to do, and have a good reason to believe that they'll enjoy (in some sense of "enjoy") it. For those souls, something like, "Wow---what is that, 22 miles?" (wh...

Your thimbleberry problem sounds like a good problem to have. And I'm with you on the last few miles into Siskiwit Bay from the fire tower -- I think that's the hardest stretch of trail on the island! Looking forward to further installments. With meteors on night one and the aurora on night two, the...

"playback on other websites has been disabled"...and when I click through, I get dumped in what looks like a generic you tube page.

Looking forward to the TR!

thanks for the report! I envy you the beaver quartet sighting. And I share your shelter etiquette intuitions as well! I always turn my permit (and sometimes other permits I've found along the way) in when I'm done walking, so I can't check. But if ISRO permits have a blank overside, it might be rein...

Hooray, chief! I'd just been wondering whether you were back. I applaud the coinage of the verb "isle royaling"---and hope you'll post more pictures!

fantastic report, and excellent use of the Voyageur to engineer a nifty route! I'm afraid that my most pressing question concerns the pre-amble: what is (a) fish batter? Is it something you make cod fritters from?

Re: TR 7/31-8/5 2021 [backpacking] DF, WCB, HL, DS, WC

Great report on what sounds like a superfun trip (wasps and leeches aside). I realized this year that I need to add earplugs to my IR kit. Defense against the auditory assaults of boisterous outdoorspeople is worth the .5oz hit to my base weight! Did the smoke have a detectable effect on the air you...

Re: 9/1-9/5 Windigo to RH Itinerary Help

I agree with hooky. I'm a fan of jumping up on the ridge to see Mt. Ojibway and Mt. Franklin. Great views, and not too many more miles. You'll still get your fill of the Rock Harbor trail on the way in to Rock Harbor, if you don't want to take Tobin Harbor instead. :) ^^this +2. with a pack lighten...

Thanks for the report! It sounds like, with the possible exception of leeches, the trip just kept getting better as you went!
