Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

Day 6: Trying something new ... oh and a few moose too! We woke up fairly early and as I was meandering my way back to the shelter from the privy I hear the classic "splooshing" of a moose in the creek. I wander towards that spot on Washington creek near the privy (not a tent site) but rig...

DARN IT! It was probably obscured by underbrush. I knew it was in that area. I couldn’t see it. So close. Haha

Somehow we missed the steam engine. I’ll trade coordinates with anyone that knows where that is ;)

Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

Thanks for the coordinates, that's something I've always wanted to see! I believe it was a "powder house", where black powder (or possibly dynamite) was stored for the Island Mine. They are usually quite stout and several miles away from the mine site, for obvious reasons. :) There are ma...

Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

thanks for the awesome multimedia chronicle! The duckling king-of-poop-rock competition must have been a sight to behold. concerning the munitions building (powder room?) on Senter Point---is the best way to find it to look for the restoration team's canoe, or are there other cues? Haha poop rock w...

Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

Day 5: Windigo Zero Day One of the best spots to spend a zero day is windigo! There’s so much to do, and plenty of space to do a whole lot of nothing if you want. I began the morning by thinking I heard a moose. “Would this trip really only have one moose sighting?!” I thought as I scanned the water...

Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

The video is great! I'm planning to do the Feldtmann Loop this next August so I appreciated being able to see the Senter Point detour that I've previously only read about. Glad it was helpful! I was pretty anxious about senter point, and it ended up being no big deal! Not easy but definitely scenic...

Re: 7/12/21-7/18/21 [HIKING](Feldtmann loop)

Day 4: Siskiwit Bay to Windigo Day four began a little chillier than our other days. It was right around 50 degrees (cool compared to our 80-90 degree days). We awoke snug as bugs in our quilts laying on the shelter floor. A quick pack up and breakfast and next thing you know we are tramping down th...

Favorite Zero Day Spots

While working on our last trip's trip report I wondered about what other great spots to take zero days would be?? Where is your favorite place on the island to set your watch back to island time?? I've had some great zeros at windigo but our most recent one was at siskiwit and it was a wonderful pla...
