Re: Mid-May Route Ideas
I did a pickup from Malone in the fall of 2014. I really liked it. It was right around a full moon and it was neat to see the lighthouse and the full moon. One group was obviously photographers and they were trying to time it just right with the moon in the first part of sunset. Sounded like a good ...

Re: Mid-May Route Ideas
This is of particular interest to me as my son and I may be on the boat with you Jerry. It really depends on his summer semester and what classes he is able to get registered. I'm thinking about heading to McCargoe and working our way back to Windigo. We were pondering over a map when he was visitin...

... "That's a mighty big tent." So this Ryan Island tent is the largest tent on the largest island in the largest lake in the largest island in the largest lake in North America. No apologies....I couldn't resist. I feel like I was set up on that one! Outstanding. I would argue there was ...

Re: Dream Trip
I have no tips or feedback at this point. I'm just gob smacked at the prospect of 3 weeks straight on the island. When I come to and get my jaw back in place, I'll revisit and give you my free and likely off base opinions.
I'm green with envy.

You'd probably still have to beat the paddlers to get a shelter.

Re: Female Gear List 1st Timer Isle Royale
I don't know... The kindle weighs less than a single paperback and it would be a great way pass a weather related delay. I personally take mine every time I'm out for more than a couple of days. I'm assuming I'm probably around 20 years older than you and a 12 mile day is the limit for me anymore, s...

Re: Fishing Potential Questions
I am by no means a Lake Trout expert, but they'll likely be shallow that time of year. In Superior or Siskiwit, I would concentrate on areas where they can transition from deep water to shallow water on the same peice of structure. That might be humps, saddles or along the shoreline as it falls off ...

Re: Novice Kayaker - Tobin Harbor?
I'm in agreement with head2north. Lake Superior isn't where I would suggest learning how to kayak. Just wading out into the lake to filter water will numb your toes within the time it takes to get a couple of quarts. Tobin harbor won't be as cold as the main lake, but still would be cold. If you wan...

It's on Hulu, so I'm going to watch it on the far less impressive hooky home theater.

Re: Guide to handheld VHF's
I read reviews and nearly everyone talked about how much easier it was to program with the cable, so I bought it. Glad I did. I agree on the certification issue. I'll pay the fine if it's an emergency. I'd rather be a little lighter in the wallet than in a bind that I maybe can't get out of with my ...
