Re: Opening Day Weather

The winter that doesn’t end has me thinking about moving my trip back a couple weeks. I was looking forward to a less busy trip but I really don’t want to go full-out winter getup. I’m sure I’ll feel differently when the time comes but pictures like this are a little bummer

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

Also just ordered one of the pocket showers. I’m doing a 12 day trip and the Windigo showers apparently won’t be open yet. I’m taking the rehydrating wet wipes but that won’t cut it for 12 days.

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

What’s there not to love about this?

Still probably one of the best showers I ever had, in spite of hair clogs, spiders, and standing water

Re: Shelters

Wow! I’m buying that book when you’re done! I wonder if the inland lean-tos were remnants of the CCC days. One of the interesting takeaways for me is that fire pits were everywhere. Granted there were probably just a few thousand visitors back then but fire is one of the things I miss when I go to t...

Agree with Rafiki. I consider Tobin to be more scenic and much less a rock/root/mud scramble. They are both fine but I would definitely choose Tobin if I could only do one.

I think the trowel is helpful if you have to take a dump between campsites. Super light weight and worth it if you need it.

Re: First time IR trip in May. Does my gear list have any glaring holes?

I never sleep in anything I've hiked in. Keeps I wasn’t suggesting to sleep in the zip off pants. I meant to sleep in the baselayers and wear the pants during the day. Why do you need shorts to? I’m lost there. I guess socks are a preference thing. I’d dont feel the need to carry that many but to e...

Re: First time IR trip in May. Does my gear list have any glaring holes?

You dont need all those socks. You are going for 4 days. 1 hiking pair, 1 sleeping pair (both wool) is all I would bring (MAYBE 1 extra if you are paranoid about socks). You dont need 4 pairs of underwear for 4 days (bring 2 max). Are you hiking in the shorts or the sweat pants? Personally I would ...

Re: Feldtman loop mid May

I forgot about Lane Cove! It was starting to get submerged on my trip in 2016. The two ends were under about an inch or two of water. I heard last year most of the boardwalk was submerged in up to 3-4 inches. Wonder if they plan on redirecting the trail.
