Re: Itinerary for 9-4 to 9-10 Feedback/answers

Nobody has made any suggestions regarding our itinerary, so I am hoping no suggestions means it looks good. Thanks again! It's fair to assume that no comment is good news here. But for the record: your route is good and doable for the group you've described. I've only paid to kayak Tobin Harbor by ...

Re: A couple quick questions (toilet paper and showers)

1) Toilet paper is usually available at the outhouses; the NPS does a good job stocking them. However, always bring a roll of TP. It's mult-use. And you never know if you need to make a pit stop on the trail.

2) Showers are free in Lake Superior. :P

Re: What if Lake Superior was gone?

I remember over the last few years when the lake level was down so low... It felt like a lot of these fears in this article would be realized. It was terrifying hearing Captain Don saying that the Wenonah couldn't make the run to Isle Royale because it couldn't even get into the harbor in Grand Port...

Re: TR: 7/1-7/8/2017 [Rock of Ages/Barnum Island]

Is building an improved dock been moved up the schedule? T I'm sure they'd like it moved up the priority list, but that decision is outside of the group's decision-making cycle. From my understanding, the NPS is a large component of when a new dock will get built, and then there's the question of f...

TR: 7/1-7/8/2017 [Rock of Ages/Barnum Island]

My wife and I were fortunate enough in 2017 to take part in the volunteer program for restoring the Rock of Ages lighthouse. This project, headed by the Rock of Ages Lighthouse Preservation Society, (ROALPS) is in its first year taking volunteers. It will continue to promote the volunteer program th...

Re: Superior Hiking Trail

I thought about starting another forum for the Superior Hiking Trail that was similar to this, but the interest didn't seem to be there...as someone has mentioned, the Facebook group is pretty active for attaining the same thing a forum would do. However, my mind could be changed with a $15 donation...

Re: Chickenbone W. vs. Lake Ritchie

West Chickenbone will be buggy, regardless of the time of year. It will also be much busier. Lake Richie isn't AS buggy as W. Chickenbone. You're often alone there, too. There's a slightly higher chance of seeing moose here, too. The rocks at Lake Richie are a great place to sun yourself during the ...

OK, here we go. I called Houghton and the ranger kindly emailed me this link. Were headed over on Monday 5/22. Time to start watching the forecast.

Re: Current Weather Conditions for Isle Royale are on the Web

This link is dead. These were nice forecasts as they were (as noted above) what you would find at the ranger stations. Anyone have an updated link? Couldn't find one at a glance. I did a quick Google and got this, but there's no reports currently published: http://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?s...

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2017 Edition

I ended up not buying a new sleeping bag or quilt because I FOUND MY OLD SLEEPING BAG after SEVEN YEARS of it being missing.

Instead I bought some new ski poles and some new lock cylinders for my bike rack. BORING.
