Happy to help again, Fonix!
BTW - I'm not sure it requires a PayPal account. I was able to go and fill out my info, and while it noticed I was a PayPal user, allowed me to continue without logging in. I think it might just be using the PayPal engine to process the transaction.

Re: Desor to Desor?
No trails around Desor. Hatchet is the only Greenstone-Minong cutover, per se.

Great Trip Report, PlowHorse! You lived up to your handled and put on the miles. I'll agree that the staff (especially those who return each year) are a special bunch. It's not just a 'job' to them. They are passionate about the Island, and the experience. It's funny how your perspective changes dep...

Re: Out of shape!
Since you say it's your first backpacking trip, a few suggestions: - Pack fit makes a HUGE difference toward comfort on the trail. Either work with a local shop that helps you get fit, or take the time at home adjusting all the straps, etc, until it feels right. - Like Don_P says, take your time. Th...

Re: MINONG TRAIL IN SEPT.
Ok, this is what I most LOVE about this forum.. You can make friends and them meet them for the first time on the Island. Isleroyaleguy - Congrats on selecting the Minong. It's one of those trails everyone should try at least once. You're route is certainly doable; note that you'll be getting in 'la...

Re: Pack it in and pack it out. Buy it here and ????
Zentater and MikeW are correct. There ARE public-use trash recepticles at both Rock Harbor and Windigo. Backpackers are of course welcome to use them; as encouragement to never leave something at a remote site or in a toilet. That being said; the NPS has to load up the garbage barge and sail it back...

Re: National Weather Service website
It's filed under the "Recreational Report" area of NWS. Kinda hard to get to. Try: http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/view/validProds.php?prod=REC&node=KMQT Also, if you use Wunderground, you use the "Wundermap" and see the temps from a few points on the Isle, along with weather histor...

Ingo - Love the site you've set up; and great TR. I think the "Oh Yeh" photo is my favorite.. You capture the moment well. :P The flower in set one does look like a Blue Flag Iris, btw. (And the ducks at Duncan Narrows are Common Mergansers.) I think from now on I'm just going to borrow th...

Re: Water filtration
So, what organisms are there on I.R. that will pass a 1 μ filter but not a .4 μ filter? You're basically down at a bacterial level at that point. Virus will still get through; but it seems to me that E.Coli is less than 1 micron. It at least increases your probability of filtering it out. E. Coli c...

Re: Camera Lens
You can probably get simple UV filters from just about any 'camera' store; you just need to buy them in the diameter of your lens. (58mm, 72, etc.) Online certainly B&HPhoto, Abes of Maine, etc. A circle polarizer is magic little filter. You install it on the lens, and the outer right adjusts th...

Re: Camera Lens
Ditto on the above. Keep the tele mounted, since the wildlife is the stuff that's going to get away. Scenic shots you'll have time to swap lenses and reframe the shot. Also, if you haven't already, but the cheap "UV" filters for your lenses. They should be optically clear (not darkening, l...

Re: WE HAVE MADE IT BACK
ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW ANY DETAILS FROM OUR TRIP, WE'D BE GLAD TO SHARE. That's a rhetorical question. Sharing details of the trip is what this section of the forum is all about! Most of us survive our boring lives off the island by reading the experiences of others. By all means, tell us how things ...
