Re: Wolves of IR, do they need genetic rescuing?

This study has been going on without human interaction for now over fifty years, it is a study, not a project. Now or ever is not the time to taint this study by performing some so-called rescue. It should be allowed to continue as it has since the beginning, that is how the most genuine information...

Re: NPCA State of the Parks

I am very pleased to see that many of those who use the park, yet have no connection to some of its recent history, find that history of interest. I'm not exactly sure of the present park administration's adgenda, if any, but some past administrations were very intent on returning the park to nature...

Re: Winter Study

No need to fret just yet, we have lots of time for ice to melt. I question the Canadian ice service data. I fish on the lake almost weekly out of Grand Portage, this past Thursday I was 11 miles from the island with 14-15 inches of ice, even in Pigeon Bay, which has been iced over for 2 months, ther...

Re: Guided trip July 20th

I only know of one difference, once upon a time dive charters were required to carry a higher excess limit. I, and every other permit holder I knew, was required to carry $1million, a few years back the paperwork came out and I saw it was $100,000, no explanation of the change of the limit, I left m...

Re: Guided trip July 20th

$100,000, thats interesting, my fishing charter permit has been a million since like '95. I wonder if someone forgot a zero or they've lowered the limit?

I guess I don't know what you mean. The VII has never run out on Fri and back on Sat. It's always been Sat out, Sun in.

Re: VOYAGEUR II AND WENONAH

I think you should be ok going out if you reserve by the end of February. A good rule of thumb is to book the trip as soon as your are certain of your plans. If it is getting close to late Feb and the group hasn't come through, call and check on the dates you want. One favor, lets not use this forum...

Re: Getting to and around the park

Go on the Queen, the ride is fine and you won't grow old on the trip. What are you referring to as "the sightseer"?

Re: Running Rock Harbor to Windigo - In ONE day

During the summer of 2006, Greg Drum, former LE ranger at Windigo and his brother raced the Voyageur II from Rock Harbor to Windigo. The race ended in a tie with Greg and his brother reaching the dock as the VII landed. Had the VII had a Malone Bay stop that day the runners would have won. I can't r...

Re: Maps?

I've never seen any and would doubt anybody would have made any. These things are typically done by state natural resource depts. Inland lakes on Isle Royale are kind of in limbo, the dept of interior makes the rules, they don't stock or really encourage fishing in them, they are just there. A study...

They have more canoes than renters at Windigo, I've never known of anyone not being able to rent one.

Re: Motion Sickness Remedies

I am fortunate in that I have never been affected by motion sickness, even drifting for tuna 150 miles offshore for 48 hours in 14' seas. One thing I have noticed in many years of operating charter boats is that if people begin talking about it, someone gets sick. Not to say that motion sickness isn...
