Re: Wolf Sightings
I don't recall anyone reporting a wolf or wolves on a table. Did you tell anyone (Rolf or the NPS) about your sighting?startinla8 wrote:we had nothing on the table we had brought it all in but may have be some spillage from dinner that night

Freshwater Jellyfish
Years ago, while doing a checkout dive in WI, I came across what I thought were jellyfish. This immediately made me think I was 'having problems'. I surfaced and asked the instructor who told me of freshwater jelly fish and that I was lucky to see them. Guess they are still around. http://www.duluth...

Re: Itinerary questions for a first visit
We're planning a first-time trip that will run Monday, Sept 7 through Sunday, Sept 11 leaving from Grand Portage and a planned return from Malone Bay. We're in fairly good shape but I'm about 12 weeks pregnant, so looking to make sure we have lots of time to stop and hydrate and stay cool. We were ...

Re: IRNP recommends filtering AND chemical treatment?!
From Steripen's website FAQ's: Is SteriPEN effective against worm eggs? We have tested SteriPEN only against bacteria, viruses and the protozoa Cryptosporidium and Giardia. We have never tested against worm eggs, so unfortunately we cannot give a definitive answer with regards to UV treatment in thi...

Re: USCG Paddle Smart Identification Stickers
Anyone that is interested in receiving these stickers, I have some that are being sent to me. PM me with your name and address and I will send them your way.
I was also told you can check with your local USCG station as they should be receiving them soon (in the Great Lakes District Nine at least)

Recent Isle Royale books
I read a few books recently either about Isle Royale or related somewhat to Isle Royale and one about North Manitou Island for those who have been there. Naked in the Stream Isle Royale Stories by Vic Foerster. This book chronicles his adventures on IR and elsewhere and includes an amazing story of ...

Re: Bugs?
It is kind of a crapshoot. As warm as it has been, I would not be at all surprised if mosquitoes were still present particularly if the Island gets rain in the end of August.
I have been up there after Labor Day many times and some years no mosquitoes, some years a bit bothersome.

Re: A sad realization: no trip this year for me
You are in good company my friend. For the first time in along time, I most likely will not be making the trip to Grand Portage to take the Voyager to IR. In the back of my mind, I have been trying to figure a way to get out there, but no good....so far. The summer has not been the same thinking abo...
