I use my poles for my tent or tarp set-up; they are also, beneficial to/during the hike, IMHO. Frog-togs and similar types are relatively lightweight, inexpensive. I must say that I love and look forward to viewing the artwork that is found in shelters along the way...It saddens me to observe how some of you take offense to the graffiti...I'd love to see more artwork if anyone has some to share. Perhaps, you should donate to the "artist in residency" program....

Scotty, My initial thoughts were, that you possibly over-tightened those boots over the instep. Ray Jardine(Backpacking Light) is quoted, that a pound on your feet equals 5 lbs. on your back. I think the possibility of having the taxi reserved and waiting to go when you arrive, should most likely be directed to those that run the service. Try and contact them? You're right about the "more work", and "time to fish?". My thoughts are that, it may be a lot of paddling and not too much fishi...
