Does 47 Years Ago Qualify as History?
At least some of these photos qualify I think as those things shown no longer exist or in place: These photos were taken during my 5 trips in 1975, 1976 and 1978. Some things look quite different than today while others will never change over 1000s of lifetimes. Back then, the Voyageur II made stops...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Portage Trip
We may spend a night on Ryan Island or the island just to the south of there. This... I believe spending the night on Ryan Island (or any island) would be off limits. The islands at Isle Royale National Park where camping is allowed include: Beaver Island Belle Isle Birch Island Caribou Island Grac...

Re: McCargoe to Chippewa Portage Trip
Very nice fishing report. Can you add some information regarding lures used, both successful and otherwise?
Unless something has very recently changed in the regulations I believe spending the night on Ryan Island (or any island) would be off limits.

Re: Feedback requested on webcam videos
Excellent! These are very nice. Thank you for taking the time. I agree with dcclark. I think Introduction and trailer times could be shortened. Three seconds is just a bit too long. The length of time allowed should depend upon what you are asking the viewer to read. It should be as short as possibl...

Re: Greenstone 2022
I found this, more or less, in this article from MSR , but they also seem to be a bit confused. They even link to the MiniWorks EX using *both* the term "physical purifier" and "microfilter". I think that calling the MiniWorks a "physical purifier" is a mistake, since ...

I fear I might sound like one of those guys on Amazon reviews that post "I don't know. I bought something different", but I've never paddled that area. You sound like you have good experience and a cautious attitude. I never knew how large a wake the Lakers can produce and how far they tra...

Saw the image above. Went to coastwatch noaa looked at the satellite image for the 2 and there was 0 ice. Just blue water between IR and Canada. On the 4 at 19:43 GMT there is ice but not solid. On the Canadian side it is broke up and open water Say it isn't so! Government agencies providing less t...

Let's hope the newly transplanted wolves now feel at home and aren't pining for the old life.

Re: Itinerary help for first timer
Several good and prudent suggestions offered thus far. Given your described circumstances (first real backpacking trip, first time to Isle Royale, unknowns about sister, and primary desire to do more than usual amount of photography, I add to the suggestion you take things a bit slower. Moskey Basin...

Re: Half Day Paddle Near Windigo
You didn't mention how experienced are you at paddling? Or if you' traveling alone? If alone, a kayak will be much easier to control than a single person in a canoe. Waves from ferries or boats should not be a concern although if you somehow get very near an oncoming wake simply turn into the wake s...
