yes... I bring those packs of string cheeze and the peporoni sticks to cut up into "rice pizza"... never had a problem on week long trips.

anything you could leave would violate LNT because it would by definition be a trace... if you know who you are leaving a note for maybe a FB radio could reach them? it would be extra weight, but a way to pass tips along. If it is uneven footing we should be fine then... part of our trip in the Smokies was on stock/ hiker trails, which are crazy uneven with rocks and mud, horses tear up trails. I appriciate the tips!

Disclamer, I have never been to Isle Royale.
I have never brought a case, I just simply pack my pole sections inside my pack with my tent poles to protect them. It makes it a little harder to get it out mid day, but I just fish mornings and evenings after arriving at my destination.
