Re: CONTEST: Pick your favorite IR forums post and win a cal

The winning post was my trip report! Does that mean I win a calendar?? Yippee!!!! The winning poster voted for Bobonabike's trip report, but what about my trip report, it got votes from two different members. That had to count for something :P Being that were halfway through the year an...

Re: Trip planning is underway

I would second that. Both Feldtmann Lake and Siskiwit Bay are great places to stay a couple days. Siskiwit is my favorite place on the island thus far. Just keep an eye on your pack weight, and prepare for trails that are rocky and tree root infested.

Re: Guide to handheld VHF's

Rafiki, Thanks for the info on the rebate! I did not know about it, and am sending it off tomorrow in the mail. I got the battery adaptor fairly quickly from the retailer, and did not have any problems with either that or the radio. I think you should be fine getting the radio from Amazon. Rarely do...

Re: Guide to handheld VHF's

Hey Rafiki, Check your e-mail. I sent you some stuff on a VHF radio that I got earlier this spring. EDIT: I would make the case for my Standard Horizon HX300 over the ones that you listed because I paid ~$118 for it, it flashes if dropped in the water (one of yours listed does), but the key to me is...

Re: How much bug repellent to bring for 3 people in 8 days?

DOH!!! I forgot to mention the permethrin. I did pick that tip up from (I think) photosean in one of his trip reports, and I bought some online, so I will use that. There is a small cottage company near where I am that makes homemade bug dope. It smells great (I do understand that you likely...

How much bug repellent to bring for 3 people in 8 days?

Okay, I am going to preface this by saying it IS a bit of a stupid question, but I am just looking for a ballpark idea. How much bug repellent do you tend to use (estimated) while on the island? I don't want to bring too little and run out, but don't want to bring a decent sized bottle and add weigh...

Re: Ernest T. Bass Hits IRNP....AGAIN!!! Feedback appreciate

I am pretty jacked up about the trip for several reasons. Our daughter is coming from Tacoma, WA and I know she is going to think this place is just the coolest thing ever. When MySweetRamona and I went last year, we had planned to hit Rainbow Cove, but got on the trail in Windigo a little later tha...

Re: Breakfast ideas

New breakfast idea here. Quaker is making "Oatmeal to Go" breakfast bars. I have tired the brown sugar cinnamon that MySweetRamona bought for me at the grocery store ( not sure if these are really new or not). They are really pretty good, and are roughly about the size of a Clif bar. I am ...
