Re: kayaking/canoeing siskiwit lake and surrounding area
Fishing Siskiwit... First go to the cabin near the dock. On the wall is a hydro map of the lake. I assume you will have the TI/NG map of IR (#240). I make notes of the map on the topo. August is an interesting time, the later in August the better as Fall feeding may have begun. Fish the dropoffs ear...

Re: kayaking/canoeing siskiwit lake and surrounding area
If you start out Chippewa, there is a little bay on the arm that goes towards the Whittlesley portage that is good for Northern. Whittlesley, good walleye fishing around the islands and fish the shore for northerns in the AM and PM. Wood lake is a great place to spend a day or two fishing. The neck ...

Re: How difficult is kayak from Rock Harbor to Chippewa Harb
The portage, as others have said, is ok, just LONG. The first part of the portage, you come off a little bridge and make a sharp left (Moskey to Ritchie). From there the trail is narrow and tree lined for a bit. It opens up after crossing a small stream and does little ups and downs and crosses seve...

Re: 2010 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!
What I would like to hear from you guys is any special advice or things to think about that maybe I have forgotten in relation to a trip that is solo in the canoe. Is there some advice from paddlers in regard to a solo trip as opposed to tandem trips which I have done multiple times. I am not the t...

Re: What type of jacket?
I don't have experience with softshells as the ones I have seen people use are water resistant, not waterproof and get wet. When I backpack, when it rains (not if :) ), unless it very windy, I don't wear a shell as I find I get wet from my sweat with it on. I wear a Capilene (or the like) shirt that...

Don't mean to make anyone angry. No I do not work for the company.Human waste management in the wild is a growing concern. One of the problems is that most people do not want to discuss the issue. It is not something people talk about around the water cooler. In fact human waste management has reac...

Search for the Ivory Billed Woodpecker ends
Though not related to Isle Royale, thought some might want to know the search by Cornell University for the Ivory Billed Woodpecker has ended. Similar to the Pileated on IR, the Ivory Bill was thought to have been seen in AR and FL in recent years and thought to be in LA. Sad to read this. http://ne...
