Water Taxi Info

So. My trip for this year is set already but I think my family is ready next year to join me. I'll likely try to do two trips as the one with the family is going to be very short hikes with lots of lounge time at camp as I try to break them in easy to the island which got me thinking of the water ta...

Re: Minong Suggestions--end of May

I've never hiked the Minong that early in the year. I think the stretch from McCargoe to Little Todd won't be that bad. The stretch from windigo to N Desor is heavily forested and may be lined with leaves obscuring it. Take your time if it gets covered up and you'll be able to "feel" where...

I agree googles got it wrong. After all that she said yes and continues with your adventures with you. You ARE the luckiest man on earth : ).

Seriously. Very cool read.
Enjoy your adventures together.

I used my 20% off and my dividend to soften the blow of the Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 tent.

Re: Trip possibilities, input welcome...

It looks like you have a great set up started and a plan in the works. From your two plans I'd agree with those suggesti g the feltdman loop. I did it last year and loved it. The views on they way into and out of Feltdman campground was fantastic. Siskiwit was my favorite but that's because I really...

Re: Where to eat around Grand Portage

Sounds like I might need to take a rest break for supper on the way up (and on the way back home for smoked fish). Thanks for the tips.

Re: An Isle Royale without wolves. Would u still visit?

I would continue to visit for sure. I finally saw my first wolf last year in my 3 rd trip. I enjoyed both the other two also. Even if I knew there were no wolves and no possibility I wod still find the same splice and self reflection that I seek.

Re: Where to eat around Grand Portage

Thanks for the help Ingo. I know the Houghton area well as the last two trips to the Isle have been on the float plane and I've had one trip on the Queen where we stayed in Houghton the night before and after. Looking forward to coming out of MN for a change.

Where to eat around Grand Portage

In the planning stages for my 4th trip to the Isle but this is the first time I've gone in from MN. I'll be coming in Friday Night May 3rd leaving for the Isle on Friday AM. What is a good (or decent) place to eat in Grand Portage? I'll probably just sleep in the back of the truck, but in case I fee...

Re: New forums theme: post bug reports and/or feedback here

Perhaps its something simple I'm doing wrong, but I can log in on my laptop (Compaq P.C.) but can not log in on my Iphone 4 or my IPad. Is this a known issue or am I doing something wrong. I can view posts and everything that others post on my phone/Ipad but can not post or log in to view my posts. ...

Re: Support your local gear store

I've always liked supporting my local stores and dropped some serious coin not that long ago at my local store. Unfortunately, Grand Rapids MI lost a great local store. Apex Outdoor Gear is no longer in business. I can tell you all that if you have a good one, support it or they wont be around.

Re: Advice for 2nd trip!

First trip I took the boat over like almost everyone. Second time I took the Sea Plane. If I am hiking and not taking a canoe/kayak I'll always take the Sea Plane! Much nicer and some of the costs can be offset by less gas and less vacation days. You have much more flexibility in the Sea Plane sched...

Re: Need advice on first time itinerary...

I've been to all the camp grounds you mentioned except Chippewa (that's on the list for this year) and think you selected a very nice and doable route. Lane Cove the first day will be fine and I did that on my first ever hike to the Isle. In my experience the hike up to the top of the greenstone fro...

The listed portage is 1.2 miles. I do not believe that you could paddle it.
