Re: What national parks haven't you visited, but would like
This is my list of parks I wish to visit, once I visit some of these parks I'm sure I will find others to fill the vacancies. 1) IR - I will be making a trip there in June 2) Glacier 3) Yosemite 4) Yellowstone-Tetons Went to Glacier NP in 2006 - had a great time. We had a short backpacking trip to ...

Aurora borealis makes a rare area appearance in Chicago area
I'm pretty disappointed I missed this last night (Monday, 10/24/2011). I haven't seen the Northern Lights since around 1972. I hoped to see them on visits to Isle Royale but have not. Did anyone see them last night? Or on IR? "According to Triton College astronomer Dan Joyce, this was the Chica...

Re: Help with some names from the old web board
Thanks, Mike. I like the waves, but after spending a long stretch on the site, I just wanted to shut it off. Sometimes I have iTunes going, so there's a little sound competition. Maybe I missed it the first time, but I see you've explained the sound source on the first page and your plan to have a d...

Re: Help with some names from the old web board
Mike,
I just visited your new site and it looks good.
Is there a mute for the waves? Was that recorded on the boat?

I also bought a hard copy of your book. You can hang onto that for a little while if you still have more to do on it! Good luck!

Re: What national parks haven't you visited, but would like
Hi Larry. My parents used to live in the town of Cahokia (the mounds are actually just north of that town). My son and I went to the mounds to get out of the house on Christmas Eve. The museum was actually open. I don't see how anyone would get much out of the visit without the museum. The history ...

Re: Shelter Graffiti
Quite frankly, I hate it . Especially when they decide to take a bowie knife and carve the shelters up while they're defacing the walls with their permanent markers. Worst ones I've seen are up at McCargo Cove. If I wanted to look at this stuff, I'd just take another drive through SW Detroit. +1

Re: Proper Pronunciation
From Wikitravel: Its French name might lead you to pronounce it "eel roy-AL", but the common pronunciation is the very midwestern "ile ROY-ul". http://wikitravel.org/en/Isle_Royale Try this - interesting: Audio pronunciation for " Isle Royale " http://www.merriam-webste...

Re: Good Backpacks (HELP)!
I bought a Jansport Ranier external frame in 2001 and have used it ever since. A friend borrowed it for the AT after using internals for the previous 2 backpacking trips and really liked it since it is so easy to pack and to find things. It may not be made anymore - see link for review. The point is...
