Re: May Weather
I have been to the island a few times in May. I had on 20+ night where I wore everything I had and was still cold(I sleep cold). I now take my 20 degree EN bag and silk liner and my dry suit insulation (heavy sweats basically), stocking cap and warm sleep socks. I will be there about the same time a...

pack rafting to Siskiwit
I am planning a trip over Memorial Day from Snug to Moskey to Siskwit to Chippewa to Richie to Snug. I'm taking my sea kayak to Moskey and pack rafting from there. My big question is about Siskiwit, but other suggestions will be appreciated. I have only been on Siskiwit lake once and it was quite ca...

Re: Fishing questions; first time IR
So one HUGE danger at Isle Royale... If you go once, you will want to spend all of you vacations there. Then at some point, you will start making two trips per year... and then start looking for jobs in the area to be able to make more trips. be careful.

Re: Schedule Help
It's quite difficult to do your trip by boat without waiting around. the math says the plane is $200ish more than the boats (you have to pay for the inter-island ferry too). Capt Don has a point that going out of Copper harbor fits schedules better, his boat is all about the passengers and runs almo...

Re: What to expect in late Aug-early Sept.
I do two trips a year, one over Memorial day and one over Labor day. These are my two favorite times to be there. For your trip, depending on the year, berries may be in in prime season. Most years bugs are minimal if any. Cool temps and rain are more likely. Expect trails to be mostly muddy. camper...

Re: Fishing questions; first time IR
The boats easily handle four and some gear, they are standard 14' &16', two & three bench rental boats. Rock harbor (that length of protected water) is usually fairly calm; The hotel area is technically Snug harbor. There are plenty of hikes to do in the Moskey area. You could even start bac...

Re: First-Timers to the Island
one of my standby trips: 25 Rock harbor to Daisy 26 Daisy to McCargoe cove 27 McCargoe to Moskey 28 Moskey to Rock harbor 29 shopping depart. So, yes longer days, but I'm 48 and not in great shape. Rock to daisy is a bit longer, but it's flatish, it's really not a big deal. If you don't make Daisy, ...

Re: Fishing questions; first time IR
I fall into your category of fisherman except I own a lot of gear. I have had a very hard time over the years trying to find fish in any of the lakes and I think I finally caught the only one a few years ago. Many proper fishermen exist on this site that will give you some very good information, I h...

I agree, you should have no problem f you have some pack days behind you. I like the trail down past East CB, but I usually go back the other way just to avoid the out and back.

Re: Newbie Weekend Trip Input
I agree with Ed. especially on the foot wear. If you plan on continuing to camp. You can start collecting gear with foot wear. spend more now for the good stuff and save by not replacing junk later. If you have an REI around you, keep an eye out for "garage sales" where returned gear is re...

Re: First Time IR; need itinerary help
I like the plan to canoe the first day in case you have to rearrange. Although Tobin harbor is usually calm, the weather precludes renting a canoe at times (watch out for the seaplane, it lands there also). Day two is a bit of a monster day. see the link for a topo to decide: https://isleroyaleforum...

Re: What are you spending your dividend on? 2019 super special edition
I route all of my bills and expenditures through my card... I think I have one of everything from that store for free. Two years ago I fell in love with the LUCI lights. I'm getting the USB recharger version to recharge my Kindle this time. I took four pounds of books last time and still ran out of ...

Re: First-timer question about Campsites/itinerary
Welcome to the forums. It is true that four days won't give you much time to see the island. With your current itinerary you are going to be spending most of your time on a boat or in the areas that people run away from; the built up areas. Rock harbor and Windigo are nice little places to visit, bu...
