Re: Dehydrated Chicken and Beef
I dehydrate ground beef once in a while, but ground turkey has become my new favorite because it's so lean. I brown it and drain it on paper towels before dehydrating at 145. I also started dehydrating shredded chicken breasts this year. It can be a bit chewy, but it's not bad. I boil the breasts un...

Re: BWCA
Leaving Saturday morning. I got the last of my meals dehydrated last night. I'm going to sort through tackle and put that gear together tonight. We did a packing dry run a couple of Sundays ago, so that's pretty much set. I'll mow the yard and finish planting garden tomorrow evening and then I'm gon...

Re: Rydens
That's too bad. I stayed there last September and thought it was a decent alternative before catching the boat the next morning. So at this point, what are the viable alternatives besides to camp at the park or stay at the casino?

Re: NPS to address IR wolf issue
Hopefully there will be ice bridges over the next few years and wolves will come over and decide to stay. That's the only genetic rescue I'll see in the 30-40 years I have left on this rock. Superintendent Green is just like the rest of the bureaucrats she reports to upstream. No one wants to make a...

If I cut out the beer, who knows what a glass of bourbon will make us decide?
Something tells me this won't be the last time I plan a trip up there.

Re: BWCA
Well, my partner threw me a curve last night over a beer while we were pondering over the map. He agreed that as long as we can single portage, he'd be willing to do Wine for a couple of days and then onto Trail for a couple of days. Everything I've read is that Wine is a great trout lake and Trail ...

Re: And then there were 3
At a glance, it looks like wolves could make a pretty good living on Michipicoten. It seems to roughly equate in size to an area that 1 pack would control when there were 3 packs on IR.
it's sad to see the IR results. I've come to hope that they introduce new wolves.

I'd love to catch one of the 2 sites on Frost and do both days there. It seems like it would be very peaceful.
Thanks for the mark ups. I really appreciate it.

Re: BWCA
It will be trout fishing for the first 2 days, then down through Temperance and into Kelly/Burnt coming out. We figured if we blank on trout those first couple of days, we'll have steaks. We'll finish it up with fresh walleye after the steaks are long gone.

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2015 edition
I ended up using my whopping $2.37 dividend to buy a Granite Gear #4 Portage pack.

Re: What are you spending your REI dividend on? 2015 edition
Yikes! I've perjured myself.
The dividend mailer showed up today and when I opened it... lo and behold $2.37.
For the life of me, I can't remember what I bought that wasn't on sale.

Re: BWCA
That's good info. Thanks. I may just decide if I want to finish up the trip fishing for trout or walleyes and let that be my guide.

I'm in Don's boat. The curse of thrifty buying, no dividend.

Re: BWCA
head2north, I'm thinking about doing that loop. Not sure which way yet though. Maybe the other way so the portage to/from cherokee is done with the least weight possible.
