Re: Forum problems (as of 18 February, 2020)

I can pull up the site on my Chrome browser at work with no issue. However, my home browsers (Firefox and Chrome) throw an error message: You are running an unsupported PHP version. Please upgrade to PHP 7.1.3 or higher before trying to install or update to phpBB 3.3 I have not idea what that means...

Forum problems (as of February 25th, 2020)

All, I tried to update the forum software the other day, and it blew up spectacularly. I'm slowly restoring the site, trying to figure out what went wrong. All the basic functionality should work, but if you find something that DOESN'T WORK, post it in this thread, and I'll prioritize it. UPDATE Feb...

Re: Changing my userid

Moderators, is there any way to combine my former userid “bobcat” with my current persona “bobcat1 “? I had to register under a different name when I realized I didn’t know my password and my email on file was obsolete at a prior employer. Just curious. I would rather just have bobcat as my moniker...

Re: Will I need a sleeping bag liner?

I don't use a sleeping bag liner. I bring a 30 degree bag to Isle Royale no matter what time of year. I sleep in some long underwear and a hat. Good to go!

Re: 26' waves on the Lake

It was quite the storm. Here in Duluth, we had lots of shoreline flooding and damage.

I checked the Rock of Ages weather station at the same time, and the SUSTAINED wind speeds were 50+kmph...

I've never been to Isle Royale when the leaves are changing colors...this makes me sad that I still haven't seen that.

Name that boat!

Hi IR Forums. We need help! The Rock of Ages Lighthouse Preservation Society ( RoALPS ) has a new work boat. It's a retired NPS boat that was donated to us. Over 2019, our organization has received a ton of help from incredible volunteers to get it repaired and show us how to operate it. Now that it...

Re: Places to get equipment?

I've recently heard from two people that the REI Used Gear store is good. REI employees inspect everything before the post it for sale. Maybe it's worth checking out: https://www.rei.com/used

Re: Toilet Paper

They are usually stocked, but with it being closer to the park closing, the likelihood of anything being available is shrinking. So, always bring your own roll! You never know. Plus, if you still have it when you leave the island, be a "trail angel" and leave it in the last outhouse you we...

Re: Draft Cultural Resource Mgmnt Plan/Environmental Assessment

This is a big deal. This plan has been decades in the making. Thanks for posting it, John. All: if you enjoy the history and culture of Isle Royale, you'll want to review this document and provide any public input soon. The outcome of this plan could massively affect the buildings, history, people, ...
