Re: Powdered Peanut Butter

I make my own using maltodextrin. It melts in your mouth. I have taken it to the Isle and given it to others and they can't believe how good it tastes. I tried using maltodextrin on bacon grease, that was bad very bad.

Re: Feldtmann Lake Loop to Huginnin Cove (Advice Needed)

I did the Windigo to Feldtman, Sisikwit and island mine then headed East last year. As far as Feldtman to Sisikwit it's was low hanging wet brushy trail, but then it was a very foggy time. It just seemed like non ending wet brush hitting my pant legs. When I left Sisikwit I never did find the bridge...

Re: Noticed new Sea Plane departure arrival address in Hancock MI

A person couldn't complain about the secure parking lot at the airport. Looking at google earth, it looks like the location is near or at a sports type center that sells snowmobiles/ATV's/marina. I will be finding out in 2017 for sure.

Re: Am or FM radio stations for weather?

Where did you find the 16" antenna? I bought it from a Ham radio store that use to operate out of Milwaukee and has since gone out of business. They were a big supplier of radio equipment. I used it for my radio scanner and other handheld vhf radios. It is a sma connector and weighs 1 ounce. L...

Re: Am or FM radio stations for weather?

Re weather radio: I took a Standard Horizon HX300 marine radio which has weather radio capabilities. I replaced the OEM antenna with a 16 inch very flexible antenna that you can tie into a knot if you wanted. I went across the island this year and had weather radio reception at each place I stayed. ...

Re: Sleeping Gear Review - warning, very long

I got a 30 EE revelation quilt for my May trip to the island. It worked great. I am 5'9" and a side sleeper. Ordered a extra wide and extra long. I like to cover my head completely. The mat I used was a klymit inertia X wave 3/4 length pad. Also used a liner for the quilt to keep the stink away...

Re: Solo Trip report 5/24/16-5/31/16

I plan on that. I have a pair of Dexshell socks that I recently wore on a several mile back pack trip with no issues. Both the Dexshell and Gore are worn with cool max liner socks. Besides this I now pre tape my feet with fixomull transparent tape which stays on with benefit of skin prep for a minim...

Re: PERMETHRIN - Spray or Soak?

i got the concentrate from Tractor supply and mix up about a quart at a time. Whats left I put back into a empty bottle and then retreat my clothes in a month or so. I tend to go out in the wooded areas enough that I use the stuff up that way. I have noticed it works very well.

Re: Solo Trip report 5/24/16-5/31/16

First the Sawyer fail was that their Sawyer Squeeze bag got a hole in it and duct tape didn't fix it. They were having a hard time getting water through it. It could have been a combination of the hole in the bag and maybe debris, I don't know but they were not going to use that again. I should also...

Re: Solo Trip report 5/24/16-5/31/16

I just picked up a pair of Gore GoreTex bicycle socks. I put them on and put my feet in a basin of water for 30 minutes and my feet were dry. They will go on my next trip, along with my blister prevention treatment kit that I just put together.

Re: Solo Trip report 5/24/16-5/31/16

Thanks. I always hated wet feet and the thought of hiking in the rain. At least no mosquito bites, did see a few but they were pretty tame.
