Re: Drop off
Sorry for late response. I need the food mail at Windigo store on 3Sept(Sunday) morning. I will pick up the food first thing in the morning on Sunday and start my hike back to RH. I am planning to mail my food(no fuel) from Southern Indiana on Monday evening or Tuesday morning. USPS postage calcula...

Re: Drop off
Good to know! Thanks Paul. Yep.. I didn't see that documented anywhere beforehand. We walked in to the store with our box and asked the couple that seasonally runs the store what it would take to store it for our last few days. There was a form to fill out and the fee is paid when you pick it back ...

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!
Who knew? https://www.swdbackpacks.com/product-page/long-haul-50l-ul-backpack I know nothing about the merchandise -- I just stumbled across the website and liked the idea of midwestern ultra-lighters. (I think you can see Isle Royale in their logo!) Has anybody had any experience with their produc...

Great report Emily, thank you. We just did the Minong 2 weeks before (week of 8/6) . We only saw a few people as well. Very glad I decided to get poles for the latter part of the trail, for sure. Based on videos I had reviewed before hand, that planking was all new and wider than in the past.

Re: MI-based UL gear cottage industry!
My recent IR trip has proven, to my back and legs, that I have several pieces of gear that need to be replaced with lighter versions.... starting with the pack. I'm looking at zpacks, but I do like the idea of getting something made in Michigan.
Thanks for the pointer.

Re: Drop off
Good timing, Paul. I was about to send you a message about drop off/pick up after reading your trip report. Thanks for pointing out to your trip report in my thread. Did you drop off the package at Windigo in person or was it a mail? I am thinking if I can mail part of my trip food to Windigo Store...

Re: Hammock friendly campsites
Hi, I've poked around here as well as youtube videos gathering suggestions for hammock friendly campsites for where we're going. I've found pointers to site numbers at our destination campgrounds, except: - Little Todd - Hugginin Any good known hammock friendly site # suggestions for these 2 campgr...

Re: Drop off
If you are on the boat from Grand Portage, couldn't you leave a bag at the camp store at Windigo, for a fee, when you stop there? (Although in the period of time the boat stops at Windigo, I am not sure there would be time to run up and leave it.) I don't recall that they offer that service at the ...

Re: general conditions--July 2017
Anyone know if the overgrowth is still a major problem? Leaving next week We heard reports last week (8/5 - 8/11) from hikers who said it was, in two spots on the Feldtman loop.. - a couple miles in the lower area on the east side of the Tower on the way to Siskiwit Bay - north of Siskiwit bay on t...

Re: Greenstone Ridge Trail - Water availability bn South Desor and Windigo
We had looked at Island Mine as part of our trip and I wondered about this too. We talked to some backpackers at Windigo at the end of our trip who had been there.. this was last week on 8/11. To support Ingo's post, that they got water at an area on the creek south of the campground that had been &...

Hi
Yes, that is it. I wrote a trip report about our journey. You can learn what we found on that section of the Minong, as well as the rest

Re: Solo Trip in Late September
We just did the Minong and the remnants of the burned out area can be seen, but no longer a navigation / slow down problem. Bring a lot of water for that 12 miles though..you won't find much and the quality of what you find isn't great.

Re: Extras
The water proof lasted about two day (with gators) but the biggest problem I had with them was the soles getting really soft, almost like a comfy running shoe. After four or five days I could feel every rock I stepped on. There are many pointy pyramid shaped rocks on the trails. I had bruises on th...
