Re: How much fuel to bring?

10-12 meals per person? Wow that's a lot of boiling!! I would say 2 of the 8oz canisters (1 for each stove), should do it. The jetboil is quick and the MSR whatever it is will be too. Here is a good article for you: https://thesummitregister.com/stoves-10 ... d-i-carry/

Re: How much fuel to bring?

It looks like the original MSR article is gone. Any chance anyone saved it? I'm trying to figure out how much fuel i'll need for a trip in June. Thanks! Check the MSR website they still have articles up. I can try to give you a best guess. How many days are you going for? How many people? And which...

Re: Ranger III Reservations

In my experience, last year, it took a while. I put in my reservations so early that there wasnt enough staff there to process it. I put in for them January 11th and didn't get an official reservation confirmation until April 10th. They did email me almost right away in January to tell me they would...

Re: First time on IR backpacking-trail advice

You could just do an east side loop. You could start and end in rock harbor by making a large loop using the RH/Tobin harbor trail and the greenstone. We did a similar trip last year. You can find the video link to our trip here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLaiLw0gcGPvZPJdJ3RKpCS3tPyHB1ym...

Re: Are the showers and laundry open by mid May?

Wet wipes go a long way and are not as heavy as a portable shower. Although you do have to pack them out and they create a bit of trash. You also want to remember to start with your face then work your way down with the wipe (not the other way around haha  Although the showers in RH were a lit...

Re: First Timer's Gear List

You might have to poo between sites. Bring a trowel so you are following LNT. The “deuce of spades” is the lightest trowel on the market (as far as I know), works well and is fairly cheap.

Re: First time IR trip in May. Does my gear list have any glaring holes?

Everyone will have their own preferences for packing. OP can figure out what works for them. We can all give different advice and all be successful hiking in our own ways. Either way we can all agree hiking out there is magical! See y’all on the island.
