200+acres is a respectable fire. The wind direction seems to have changed. Yesterday it was blowing south. Today, it's blowing north. Which means some of the flames will be blowing back onto already burned land. Already making plans to visit the island next summer. I have to walk through this burne...

The NPS has 2 SEAT planes attacking the fire with water drops.

John Elk fire went from less than 20 to over 1500 acres in the past 24 hours. The BWCA is closed as of Saturday afternoon, and wilderness rangers are sweeping the region of all visitors. And as of this afternoon in the BWCAW, they have closed Sawbill Lake and everything west and northwest from Sawbill, because the Whelp Fire has doubled in size.
