Re: Accessible Camping
......the Queen IV from Copper Harbor is probably the most comfortable choice. If it is to be Rock Harbor, I would like to figure out a way to spend at least two nights. I am not opposed to paying for a room, but I would rather not when we are comfortable camping. You may want to consider the Range...

Re: Accessible Camping
Also look at the Isle Royale National Park website. There's a page on "accessibility" (plan your visit>accessibility) that you may find helpful.

Re: Wilderness Stewardship Plan
I'm surprised the article is behind a paywall for you guys. It opens freely for me.
One thing the article did say is that the Park Service went through the same exercise in 2011. They never implemented it.

Re: New Webcam
I don't think the lights to the right are from Thunder Bay. The camera is pointed strongly southwest, and Thunder Bay is about a 90 degrees angle to the right, probably out of the range of the camera. I wondered if the lights are from a passing freighter.

I wonder if day visitors are part of these numbers? I've met a few people who have taken the Queen to IR just for the day.

Re: Queen Done For the Season
Their post from the Isle Royale Facebook page: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we must announce the cancellation of the rest of our 2022 season. There is a minor hull repair that needs to be done on the Isle Royale Queen IV. Under United States Coast Guard restrictions, we are unable to...

Re: Pregnant on Isle Royale
Ingo has described the healthcare issue on IR perfectly. If you had problems that require immediate treatment, you could be waiting a long time. When I was on IR back in 2016, somebody broke their leg in the back country. Somebody else from their party had to walk to the nearest campground (Three Mi...

Re: 2022 Wolf Moose study
Thanks for posting. That's quite the jump in wolf numbers, from 14 to 28. And the moose population decreasing by 500 is equally impressive. Lot of changes in the past few years.

This is a Park Service photo I lifted off their Instagram page. I've hiked up this rocky hillside many times.

Re: Fun Article
I agree with Ingo. I think that's how Google Maps tries to interpret underwater "topography." Here's a bathymetry map of the Lake Superior basin. You barely can see this mysterious anomaly. All those strange patterns on the eastern side of Lake Superior interest me more. https://live.stati...
