Was that voluntary or were you shooting a remake of "The Eiger Sanction"?

Edited to add a short 2 minute video clip:

Re: First SUP Crossing to and Circumnavigation of Isle Royale

Holy Wow is right, but if I read it correctly he abandoned the circumnavigation portion. He got as far as Mott Island (around Blake Point in 4-6 foot seas as you mentioned) where he was convinced to abort and then he got a ride to Windigo. From there he paddles home. I wonder if he'll be back. Last ...

Re: Water Taxi

I see you're taking the water taxi from Rock Harbor to the Lookout Louise dock. Do you have a phone number for a reservation and cost of the boatride? It is possible to save some money if your schedule allows you to leave Rock Harbor on a Tuesday or Thursday morning. The M.V. Sandy tour boat has a ...

Re: TR: 5/23-5/28, 2015 [Hiking] [Grace Harbor-Rainbow Point-Windigo XC] The soggy kilt tour!

I really enjoyed your report and pictures. Even soaking wet you had a great time. Your cross country speeds were faster than I expected. Do you have pictures that reflect the worst of the bushwhacking? My speculation is, regarding the limitation that you must camp within 1/4 mile of Lake Superior, t...

Re: Senators want action sooner on the wolf issue

It’s my nature to be reside somewhere between cynical and skeptical when it comes to relying upon large government bureaucracies (with or without politicians involved) to properly solve problems (granted. . . according to my definition of proper). I wonder if these U.S. Senators have been briefed on...

Re: Dehydrated Chicken and Beef

The problem with using dehydrated meat is not the dehydration process. The problem is getting the protein to re-hydrate so that it is not tough or chewy or rubbery (think beef jerky). This is why lots of vegetables and fruits are commercially available as dehydrated but for commercial meats they use...

Don't forget Little Todd!
Thanks Tom. How could I have overlooked LT? I am surprised Hay Bay has no shelter.

Re: Canoeing the NE part of the island

Thank you Midwest Ed for the information on the HX300! I have been looking for the best price on that radio and have only found it for $150. I will check Hodges Marine. Regular battery is a Lithium Ion with USB charger. Solid battery until you need a recharge. Normal battery life with modest use is...

Re: Lane Cove

It has been over 20 years since my last visit to Lane Cove Campground (1993). I did not know that they had moved the site. When did they move it? I do remember that our group was the only occupants of the campground on that evening and I would assume we selected the best site available. The camp wa...

Re: Canoeing the NE part of the island

I am planning on investing in a VHF radio and read that the Standard Horizon HX300 is a good choice. I also have an HX300. It has all the features more pricey units offer. Most "brand name" retailers ask about $150 but I got mine for about $125 at Hodges Marine. Standard Horizon is runnin...

That makes it even more unique, in my opinion. Great factoid, Ed.

Re: Lane Cove

Lane Cove is just 1 of 5 campgrounds on Lake Superior with no shelters. I haven't been back to Lane Cove since the campground was moved many many years ago. The old one was on The Lake's shoreline but under heavy canopy so it was quite dark, even in bright sunlight. I would be looking forward to Tod...

Just like Huck Finn and Tom Sawyer traded in their raft for kayaks. So you enjoyed being a river rat for a few days. Looks like a nice time. I wasn't aware Bison had been introduced to the area. Are they wild or is it animal husbandry? What part of Iowa do you live? Have you ever checked out all the...

Re: NPS to address IR wolf issue

My first question would be, "Has there been any explanation given by The NPS or Dept. of Interior as to why no action has been taken yet or cannot be taken until another series of studies is completed?". The Department of Defense is continuously generating contingency plans for virtually a...
