Re: IR hacky [relocated from Itineraries]

I've probably been there 20+ times. I'd have to go back through my journals to get an exact count. All first boats except for one trip in July with my daughter and post-Labor Day in 2016 with my wife. Once I've finished that last 10 miles, I'll start on another ISRO bucket list: First and foremost, ...

Re: 2018 Trip Log - Add your planned itinerary here!

Nick DeTour Village 5/5/18 5/20/18 From Grand Portage Plan on getting dropped of at Chippewa Harbor, eventually paddling over to Malone Bay. Once I complete that paddle, I will have circumnavigated the island and will have hiked every trail on the island, some more than once. It's only taken me 40 y...

Re: Good Paddling Information

And, don't forget those pesky snowballs that can really ruin a paddle.

Posting Photos

I knew how to do this at one time, but can you give me some guidance on posting photos. Do I need to use a photo sharing web site? If so, which ones? Thanks.

Re: Shelter Dimension

Bobcat,
Thanks. That's just what I need. An exact measurement is what I'm looking for. I need the number ASAP as I'll be on the Island for two weeks starting 9/5.

Shelter Dimension

There is a sill in the shelters that is about 4' off the floor. It's the shelf that we all put or small stuff on. I need to know how thick that sill is. It looks to me about 4". Can someone get an accurate measurement for me? No speculations. I need an exact measurement. So, if someone is going...

GPS for Microsoft Phone

I'm generally technologically challenged (I learned to type on a manual typewriter in the 60s). My current GPS is a 2001 vintage Etrex Summit. I'm told that I can use my Microsoft Lumina 640 phone as a GPS and can include USGS Top Maps, too (I currently have the USGS quadrangle maps cut down with UT...

Re: Reservations now available for Voyageur II and Sea Hunter 3

Just made mine for the first boat. I think this will be about the 10th time I've caught it. Haven't since 2011, though. Excited. Planning three trips this year: kayaking McCargo to Windigo in May, Rock/Moskey/Chippewa Harbor with my daughter in June, and Tobin/Blake/Five Fingers with my wife in Sept...

I paddled right up to them near Rock Harbor Light last May.

Re: Wolf population is at risk (News article)

Let's not write their obituary quite yet. I seem to recall a similar prediction after the Parvo pandemic in the early 80s. They have a way of surprising you. Still, I've read with fascination and admiration the reports from the researchers over the years.

Re: Respect the Lake and Be Prepared

And the most frightening thing is that I've seen solo paddlers with similar gear and boats on the Island in early May.

Great advice from JohnH. All my trips to IR have been in May (my first was 1976). Only downside is you might run into JohnH.

Re: Ist Time "Seniors" Need Advice

Not Passage as I was not comfortable with a solo paddle out there and my paddle partner at the time was not comfortable with that either. For that matter, I've not been out to Menagerie Island either, but hope to.
