Re: Salmon Runs
After researching it some more, I'm inclined to believe that they don't run. They would have had to have been stocked on the island as fry in order for them to return and run. NPS is saying they don't stock them.

Salmon Runs
What salmon run on the island and when/where do they run? I'm only familiar with the coasters, but have heard recently of pinks. Just wondering what runs and if a trip could be planned around them.

Re: BWCA - Questions and a Brief Trip Report
I hear you, Jerry. I didn't do a fall trip this year and the BW trip in May isn't going to hold me over through the winter. I'm going to have to find a way to do a couple of long weekend trips after deer season.

Re: BWCA
It's been a busy summer and I haven't had much time to follow up on this trip that ended up being a solo paddle. First partner, who was the one that wanted to go in the first place, took a new job and couldn't take the time off. My second partner had been before and was jealous that I was going. Whe...

Re: East Feldtman Lake Trail
That must be from this year then. I don't remember seeing any of the boards or posts stacked last fall.

Re: PERMETHRIN
I used permethrin for the first time this year and I'm a believer. I bought a quart of concentrate for about the same price as the premixed Sawyer. I'll never run out of Permethrin. I spent time in the boundary waters during the week of Memorial day and the only mosquito bites i had were the result ...

Re: East Feldtman Lake Trail
Today it would be wet. Back in the day there were very long boardwalks. I'm guessing their maintenance was most of the reason the trail was moved. Makes total sense to me, Ed. Given that they talk about keeping Malone Bay geared more towards paddlers, I wonder if they'll eventually decide not to re...

Re: East Feldtman Lake Trail
That looks like it would be some wet, sloppy bushwhacking coming off the ridge as you went north.

Re: stinky Keens
I have Keen H20's and I wash them when they start to get funky, then spray them with the sanitizer I use for brewing. Works well enough for me.

I keep some mixed a spray bottle to use in the kitchen too.

Re: Dehydrated Chicken and Beef
Because then I have to pack out the pouch. I have no idea what's in the pouch chicken or in the store bought dehydrated stuff. I'm already running the dehydrator, so it costs nothing more to dehydrate whatever meat I want to take. The animal protein is part of the entire meal. Leading up to a trip, ...
