Re: Fotunate Wilderness DVD and T shirts now available

Thanks for the info. A tick free wilderness for us humans is a plus for me! That does make sense. I see dogs all the time in the BWCA. While I love dogs and know they can be great companions I hope Isle Royale will remain bear and dog free. The moose-wolf ecosystem there is one of a kind.

Re: Fotunate Wilderness DVD and T shirts now available

Received and watched my new DVD last night. What a great documentary! High quality and you get to see what Rolf and his staff do out on the island. Great stuff. I was aware of the winter tick problem for moose but to see it up close like that was very interesting. Thye mentioned that there can be fr...

Re: July 31-August 6, 2009 trip #2....TRIP REPORT****

Nice report. Sounds like a great trip. You put on some miles on that route. So it sounds like you have been caught by the cry of the loon. My favorite sound to hear at night on canoe trips. Sounds like you hit the jackpot on Whittlesey with the walleyes. That is great. So I am trying to figure out h...

Re: North Side Canoe Trip 7/27 to 8/2

John, Reading your trip report was a great way to start my day! The log and pictures were absolutely great! I really like how you log the times. It really helps give a better idea what to expect on future trips. I looked at my map as I was looking at your pictures and reading your trip log so I coul...

Re: cell phones

wha....wha....what!?? You can't order a pizza from Isle Royale??? I thought Ingo ordered one from Bell Isle on his trip and was delivered in 30 minutes or less from Canada. I guess I will just have to be patient and wait for his trip report. Well it's a bit of secret, and like all things ...

Re: Anchoring / Beaching in Hugginin Cove?

Hugginin is one of the LAST places I would want to try and anchor a boat on IR. The northwest side of the island has the fewest places to anchor or land a boat.

Re: North Side Canoe Trip 7/27 to 8/2

Welcome back John! Sounds like another great trip. Looking forward to your detailed report and pictures too! Waves and wind always make paddling "exciting". Going around Blake Point would have been a bold move in an open canoe. Good choice. Glad you are back safe and sound. I went on a lon...

Re: Hydration packs?

I have a camelback for biking and my hiking pack also has a hydration bag. I think they are great. No more carrying bottles of water around. I like the the fact that when you have a nice pace going you have water when you need it without having to stop on a long hike or bike ride. They also make sma...

Re: Water treatment?

No, you do not have to chemically treat filtered water. I have used a MSR miniworks on Isle Royale and it worked just fine, water tasted normal.
