Oh my God, I'd be lost on Isle Royale right now. Out of the woods brain freeze without thinking......oopsss

and I was wondering why post was not answered yet. There isn't much to say about trail connected fishing on the East side.

Re: Canoeing the NE part of the island

An essential piece of canoeing gear for a soloist traveling cold water is an EXTRA PADDLE. I was lucky to learn the "easy" hard way. My only paddle tumbled overboard while canoeing Lake Richie in July. I had to jump into the water after it. Lucky It was a smaller relatively calm lake that ...

Re: Memorial Weekend Fishing

Feldtmann Lake Northern Pike should be congregating in the shallows and have caught this time of year. Have also caught Lake Trout from pier at Siskiwit Bay campground. Shore Lunch Pan fry the Northern Pike fillets (Y-bone removed). And grilling of Lake Trout (Poached in seasoned broth if no grill a...

Re: Canoeing the NE part of the island

I am not familiar with lake canoeists wearing wetsuits, I would consider overkill as lake canoeing is a totally different animal than kayaking.... But if you feel more comfortable with such protection, it can't hurt. Sierra Trading Post has a current high discount on the Granite Gear Portage Pack #3...

Re: It's still May on the Island

And it is important to know that the weather forecast can be different than what is anticipated. I just returned from a two week boundary waters trip with a pleasant weather forecast prior to departure. I do know better (or worse for this matter), the trip weather actually turned out to be almost al...

Re: Lane Cove

Lane Cove is just 1 of 5 campgrounds on Lake Superior with no shelters. I haven't been back to Lane Cove since the campground was moved many many years ago. The old one was on The Lake's shoreline but under heavy canopy so it was quite dark, even in bright sunlight. It has been over 20 years since ...

Re: Craig Lake State Park anyone?

I did not portage and Canoe Crooked Lake. I was going to but never got around to it. I did hike it and it was not a difficult hike or would be portage. Lets say
equivalent to LeSage/Livermore portage.

Re: Craig Lake State Park anyone?

There is no formal/official campsite registration at the park. The HQ is actually a field office in Champion for the Van Riper/Craig Lake/Norway parks.

The only way would be by word of mouth at launch site.

Re: Craig Lake State Park anyone?

Beautiful area and as secluded as can be for a state park connected to a Highway. There is some interesting history about this plot of land (The Millers) The Craig Lake entry is about a 50 rod portage from parking lot. Once at the lake, you will have the option of camping at the campground there or ...

Re: One Family Tent vs. two smaller tents

Another option is to find an outfitter with reasonable rental prices.
I know that MTU and REI offers rentals, but you could check in your local area as well.

Re: 1st Trip to IR - 12 day itinerary

Your itinerary looks like you will get to see most of the island at a leisurely pace. I like the boating option to end the trip. When at Caribou Island, make sure you hop on over to the Edison Fishery. From that central point there is a spur trail to both the lighthouse and Bangsund cabin. As far as...

Re: BWCA

Its like being in a candy warehouse and only getting to choose one piece. With all that BWCA offers I always have a tough time choosing a route. In fact, looking at your new plan, I have reconsidered my Minnesota Fishing Opening trip. I had narrowed it to the Lac La Croix expanse, and am now thinkin...

Thanks for attempt. It is a little better on the eyes. I think it is just the minimal contrast of light pastel color text against white background.
At least it is only present in topic headers.
