Re: Suggestions for the new year

One of the things I liked from the IsleRoyale.Info web site was the trip log pages where people posted their upcoming trips. It was nice to see where and when people were going, Who was on the island, How many trips people had completed. Plus it was all on one easy to read page.

Re: Malone Bay to Rock Harbor 2 Days?

I'm sure you could do it . . . depending on the weather. The real question is why? Isle Royale is so beautiful, you would be missing much of it by paddling that distance in 2 days. Why not stop at Chippewa Harbor, Moskey Basin or Daisy Farm on your trip? Enjoy your time on the island. It's not about...

Re: Source for dehydrated bulk foods

You can find an amazing amount of prepackaged foods at the local grocery store. Lipton makes noodle and rice dishes that you can add chicken, tuna or beef to. Sure beats buying freeze dried. Don't worry about the sodium or calories, you'll be burning these up on the trail. You don't have to make any...

Dramamine. The stuff works.

I've also put my head down and slept until the ride was through.

I saw a great display with John, Tricia & Jerry from the Voyageur dock area in 2005. Mesmerizing.

Re: 2009 Trips

My daughter and I did that loop last year. Check out our TR under "Kari and Wally trip report". It's pretty rewarding as a parent when your kid (OK she's 16, almost 17) still wants to hang out with you, isn't afraid to get dirty and doesn't freak out when she sees snakes and bugs.

Re: 2009 Trips

Hi again, Could you guys email me directly at wmeyer@cityofmadison.com ? I'm specifically interested in learning more about routes & campsites. Is it better to go east to west or vice versa? Are there specific camps to make sure and stop at and ones to avoid? Are there points of interest that on...

Re: Running Rock Harbor to Windigo - In ONE day

This is insane. Rocks, roots & footbridges would make this a ankle twisting nightmare. Then there's the wolves of Isle Royale. Wouldn't the site of a running meal prompt them to stand up and explore? What about all the wildlife and scenery you're going to miss? Good luck, but this doesn't sound ...

Re: 2009 Trips

Happy New Year's everybody. Speaking of Pictured Rocks . . . . does anyone have a suggestion on how you should backpack this? I understand you start at on end and then get on a boat back to the start? Does anyone have any ideas where to start? How long ? Bears? etc.

Re: Minnesota Moose dieing off

John, That's a sad story. I thought the IR moose were dying off because of the tick infestation. With a record amount of snowfall in December, it's hard to believe the planet is under a "global warming" problem.

Sven notices his neighbor has a sign in his yard-"Boat for Sale."
"Ole," he says, "you don't own a boat. All you got is your old tractor and your combine."
"Yup," said Ole. "And they're boat for sale."
