That's bizarre. I notice the Mining article or the Duluth one it linked to made no mention as to the concentrations found. One reference stated the Lake Erie nets contained 1.7 million particles (but per what measurement?). The other was that the Great Lakes were "filled" with the particles. That non-scientific description doesn't leave much room for water.

Maybe I should have had second thoughts about that Lake Trout I just ate tonight at the Pilgrim River Steakhouse. :P

I am trying to get clarification on size of the particulate. It seems that my filter clogs too easily in "clear" water.

In the samples Rios’ team collected in Lake Erie, 85 percent of the particles were smaller than two-tenths of an inch, and much of that was microscopic. Her group found between 1,500 and 1.7 million of these particles per square mile.
I cannot find any more details. I have found a mention that the full report will be released soon.
