Map
there use to be a map of IR, if I remember correctly, that had island in yellow with trails shown with mileage and lake was blue. Around sides of map were little bits on info about various places such as Ryan Island, largest island on largest lake on largest island on largest lake, things like that. Does anybody remember this map and if so can they still be bought anywhere? thanks

Re: Map
I think the map you refer to is called "Points of Interest - Isle Royale National Park. I have not seen it for sale today. Here is a scanned copy of the one I have from 1977

Re: Map
Haven't seen that one in years! Mine is from '79 (if I still have it somewhere).

Re: Map
It shows some interesting history. For example, Lane Cove campground is in the "old" position and the older Windigo to Feldtmann Lake trail that goes through the swamp is shown.

Re: Map
Another "oddity" that I just noticed is Lake Desor is listed as having Brook Trout, Cisco and Whitefish. This is in direct conflict with the official stance that it is void of fish although there have been anecdotal reports of some fishing successes.

Re: Map
Lakes' Richie and Intermediate, "canoe camps", are in different areas of the lake, than current positions.
"And standing on the the crest of the Greenstone Ridge, I suddenly had this desire to retreat north to where I just come, to stay in the backcountry, to spend another day in a place where the only deadline I had was to pitch the tent before dark."

Re: Map
Lane Cove also has moved. It used to be at the end of the canoe portage.
