Thanks! Love the picture. P.S. I enjoyed the time you spent with me at the Daisy Farm dock discussing stuff. Hope you and your family and your brother-in-law's family have a nice holiday season. Thanks again for the water you gave me. jerry (the old one)

There's an old fishing boat that's partially onshore at the far northern end of Chippewa Harbor. No idea how long it's been there.

This link does not give the date of the beaching, but offers some history ---> viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1995#p12916

This is a picture from one of the placards in the displays inside of Rock Harbor Lighthouse. It did not say where is was docked.

I do not know if it is true, but I heard Holger Johnson "accidently" beached the boat when he was mad at the park service.

There’s a ridge directly behind the Chippewa Harbor campground. No trail to follow, but just climb up as far as you can and you get this view. This was the hottest weather I’ve ever experienced on the island, it must have been 90 when I took this picture.

I've been up there! Found a clearing on the way up but had to bushwhack my way down.

This isn't that far away from there:

Glad somebody else found my "secret" spot.

Where's the cabin located?

If you walk along the harbor's edge from the shelters towards Superior you will find it.

This picture may help in orientation:

Volunteers helped restore it in 2005:

I've been to Chippewa Harbor several times (kayak) and never noticed the cabin. Looking at one of my old slides, I do see it hidden amongst the trees. Look directly behind the little rock island with the seagull, you'll see the roof of a structure back about 20 feet from the shore. I'm guessing this is the cabin.

Here are some pictures from the cabin in 2001 before restoration. A lot of the items now inside the cabin were laying around the area and were moved inside. There were and still are chards of pottery in the water and crib remains. My favorite items then were the jars on the shelf. Comparing the pictures, notice the new roof. This probably saved the cabin from falling down.

From 1992. We paddled over to Menagerie Island. A shot of the lighthouse.

A picture of a unique place that is very hard to get to. This is, by far, the largest stand of Jack Pine on the island. Probably a few hundred acres located in the Saginaw Point area. Either you bushwhack into it or take a kayak to Saginaw Point and walk in. I’m guessing the stand originated from a forest fire in the 1920’s. Nothing quite like it anywhere else on the island.
