I'm sure we've all heard about the craziness that occured last month in Mt. Rainer NP, but I'm absolutely amazed by this first-hand report shared on a backpacker's forum for the Pacific Northwest:

The coffee cup messages just show how desperate rescuers were. No amount of preparation can help you in situations like that, and to know that rescuers are on the ball that much makes me feel much better about our public servants helping us in our National Parks.

Wow! Where was I? I never heard this story. How sad. Just goes to show that even our places of solitude and peace are not safe from the evils of those on the fringe of society.
