Camping/Parking at Grand Portage

Post by jmhoying »

Hello,
We are planning a 3 day trip to IR in late July and will be leaving from Grand Portage. We are pulling a camper and would probably like to camp the night before in the Grand Portage area, and will need to park a van and camper while we are on the island. Is there adequate parking at the Voyager II dock area for that? Is there a cost for parking?
Thanks much,

You could camp at the marina next to the casino in Grand Portage. Not sure how much they'll charge for a camper. It's pretty cheap for a tent. Someone else will have to address the parking charge over at the dock for the V2. I'm assuming it'll be more for your camper&car, then us folks with a car only.

There is an RV park adjacent to the Grand Portage marina. This is not the same marina as the V2 uses, however.

Hi,

Yes, there is plenty of room at the Voyager dock to park your rig. You are not supposed to camp there though, so you would have to camp as the others have suggested and then drive your rig over to the voyager dock/parking area in the morning. I believe parking is $3 per night and the tribe is (or has been) pretty laid back on that so I doubt they will charge you extra.
