Questions about how to get to the island and where to stay near points of departure.

Place to stay in Copper Harbor

Post by scotty »

Hey, everyone

I am looking for a cheap motel to stay at the night before the boat. Do you guys have recommendations? The room doesn't have to be very nice considering we will be arriving and right to sleep!

Thread link has a lot of info. I recommend King Copper. Nice and close to boat and clean in my experience. I've stayed at Bella Vista and have nothing bad to say, but would take King Copper over it. For absolute budget, Fort Wilkins is the place. It is farther from the dock and at the beginning and end of the trip it is nice to stay in a carpeted room with showers.

We always stay at the pines. Good rates, ok accomidations, great breakfast. We always try to get the room that has the upstairs because we always have about 6 people and always need the space to go through our gear for the Nth time

When taking the Queen, we stay @ King Copper. We like the idea that it is so close to the dock and that we can walk to the Pines for breakfast and still be back in time for the departure.

I stayed at Bella Vista in 2009--and liked it. Very basic. Nothing fancy. Very close to the ferry. (Basically next door).

I like the Bella Vista. It is the only place I have stayed at when going to Isle Royale but for $83 + tax (basically $90) a night, I decided to opt out go using their motels this year. This price applies to the motels, not the cottages or house cabins. However, the motels seem most modern compared to the other shack-like accommodations that I mentioned. Therefore, this is the route that my girlfriend and I prefer. However, with the Brockaway costing $56 a night and the Pines motels costing $70 a night, there just are better options to choose between. When and if, Bella Vista drops their rates to $75 altogether with tax and everything, I would definitely consider them once again. I can't drop $90 a night though unless I'm getting a comfort inn or holiday inn. Sorry Bella Vista.
