1st timer again

Questions about how to get to the island and where to stay near points of departure.

The listed portage is 1.2 miles. I do not believe that you could paddle it.

I don't know from any experience of my own, but I believe I have read a couple of different posts from reputable around here to confirm that you cannot. Again, this is just what I have read and not from my own personal bank of knowledge.

Get the National Geographic Isle Royale National Park Trail Map - you'll want it when you're on the island anyway and it's the best for looking at trails and terrain. Any portage trail on the map means there's no way to paddle the same route.

Spend some time reading the Greenstone newsletter on the IRNP website, the 2012 version should be coming along soon, but the 2011 version covers what you need to know at this point in your planning. It contains a park map of sorts.

There's a link, which I can't open, on the IRNP website for a park map. Hope they fix that soon.

There's a "view map" button near the top of the page that works. The "click here" link under Park Map on the Map page is broken.
