I might bring extra water containers (myself platypus's) to give to people you meet in Windigo. If you were taking the boat, you would meet others taking off right from the boat and they could and would leave them. It is my experience people on the island will helpout others in any way they can. Hopefully someone here will be going at that time and on the Greenstone. The other thing is to contact the rangers and/or wolf-moose research team to see if they will be working in the area.
Another thought would be to carry a card explaining what you are doing and, when running into people on the trail, instead of repeating yourself, you can catch your breath while they read. I imagine you will run into some with water to spare and share with you. Maybe sign the card and they will have a souvenir of your run.
