Camp Grounds near Grand Portage

Post by Jeffery »

It looks like the closest camp grounds to Grand Portage are at the Grand Portage Casino/Lodge (in Grand Portage), or Judge Magney State Park (about 15 miles south). Are these the best options for camping?

Quick answer, Yep!
Lodge campgrounds are "RV Style". Just an open field, but close to the boat.
Magney is nicer, but a longer drive in the morning.

Kari and I stayed at the RV / tent field near the Casino. $16.18 for the night. It wasn't the greatest, but it was close to the GP Trading Post and less than 5 minutes to the Marina dock.

Oh my, they raised the price per night at Grand Portage campground. I guess that helps pay for the showers.

Another camping option that might be of interest is the Canadian provincial park that is literally just past the border crossing, just a couple miles past the turn-off for the ferry. This is closer than CR Magney in the morning. You do need passports, though, to get into Canada and back.
